Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
The vast temple complexes of Ancient Egypt covered acres of land, but the "god" lived in a little back room at the end of all the pillars and hallways. The Ancient Egyptians considered the statue to be the actual god, and the temple was his home.
Solomon had the revolutionary insight to know and say out loud that the One True God did not dwell in Temples made with human hands. His prayer at the Dedication clearly admits that the Magnificent Building, into which he had poured so much treasure and creative energy, was merely a dwelling place for God's NAME. The practice of facing Jerusalem while praying continues to this day, and even Christian Churches "orient" their buildings to continue this custom. In fact, that is the origin of the word "orient" as a verb!
In 8th century Arabia, a certain religious leader changed this to "orienting" towards Mecca. It was an obvious contrarian move, meant to defy and insult the prevailing practice among both Christians and Jews.
Solomon's "prayer style" differs greatly from that of his father David. While David's prayers are actually songs and poetry, Solomon's is more prosaic and orderly, like an essay or a sermon. How wonderful that the Holy Spirit uses the personality and temperament of each inspired author of the Scriptures, and that we can not only hear the Word of God, but actually get to know the authors personally!
Come and pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Didn’t know that was origin of Orient as to Asia. Fascinating.
