If gender is solely defined by one’s subjective volition, can someone declare that they will be male on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and female the other days of the week? And what then to do about the birth certificate?
PS: Didn’t Icarus want to be a bird? Even had “wings”? Still didn’t make him one, did it?
You disregard his comment that “gender”is a grammatical term. Except for a few of us, we are born male or female. The problem that for ideological reasons, people use the word gender in place of sex. A male may pretend to be a female; a female may pretend to be a male. Or it could be that a male comes to believe he is what is he is actually not. He is in fact deluded. We do not do a deluded person a favor by doing things that confirm in his mind this falsehood.
Well, I am pretty sure that Chris Cuomo has never read what Freud or Jung wrote about homosexuality.
As Christians, we must be careful to not be deceived into these faux guilt ridden conversations regarding homosexuality.
Bruce Jenner’s public display has the media openly discussing how his public transformation finally allows us to discuss these ‘issues.’
They talk about this as though it has been some deep, hidden, taboo that is finally being thrust into the light of an uncompassionate society.
Oddly as I hear these media types sing the open praises of such discussions, I am forced to consider the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Those ancient cities were well known for their debauchery. In fact, I am confident that their deviant behaviors were not hidden and the behaviors on blatant display. And they considered themselves quite normal or leading a new cultural advent.
So this idea that the world is now ‘free to discuss’ transgenderism is not a new discussion. It is an old discussion, being led by a very old, dark deceiver.
The Bible makes it clear that this particular deviation is not genetic, but choice driven like all the other sins.
May God have mercy on the souls of those deceived into this lifestyle choice and on those guilted into supporting/condoning those choices.
You say Jenner is deluded. But male and female brains, when scanned (I forget which kind of scan, might be PET) while the patient is actively thinking, react differently to stimuli. Jenner’s reacts like a female’s. To simplify this dysfunction, it’s best to say that his brain is female while his genetics and body are clearly male.
All mental illnesses, which are biological sicknesses or conditions, make life EXTREMELY DIFFICULT for those who have them. Take bipolar, for instance. These people are either feeling great, creative, competent, a million projects going at once, want to party all night, whatever, and while they feel wonderful, they APPEAR as high as a kite; or else they are down, low, feeling worthless, and each problem becomes overarchingly life-stopping. Suicide rates are so high. All the brain illnesses are this way, making normal life really impossible.
Feeling like a woman inside, identifying that way, is like the ugly swan story. You’re among your kind, you think, but you NEVER have the thoughts and feelings the others have. In the locker room he probably shared none of the feelings the other guys had, and just tried to overcompensate for it. (He did a gold medal job at that!).
He isn’t deluded. He knew he was male. He lived as you wished him to live, as a male, for 65 years. He tried to ignore his brain dysfunction but of course it always was there.
We do him no favors by humoring him pretending to be a woman, you say. This is a real condition just like someone with schizophrenia who believes his own thoughts are being broadcast to everyone in the world. There are some drugs which sort of help people with schizophrenia (though with side effects). There aren’t any drugs for gender dysfunctions.
I have nothing else to offer him for treatment. Right now in 2015 doctors and shrinks are advising people to give it a go as the (opposite) brain gender. About half of the people who do this are thereafter happier, content. ONLY HALF, so it’s really a sucky treatment.
But that is the only treatment available to him. I support him trying. If I could wave my magic wand I’d cure everyone with a “mental” disorder. They are all biological brian differences, not “made up.”
That is awesome but it’s for homosexuals. Maybe they will develop something for brain gender dysfunction as well.
