LDS Temple Ordinances Performed for the Dead: 1842-1970: 'Wives Sealed'

(Note: Lds also seal living wives “for eternity” ...these stats below reflect only Lds temple ritual acts aimed at the dead when performed)

So beyond the millions of proxy baptisms for the dead, and ritual dead children sealed (or adopted) in Mormon temples, by 1970 over 7 million deceased wives were “sealed” in Mormon temples...

Based on extrapolation since 1970...this number probably went over 8 million by 1975; about 9 million by 1980; and probably rose over a million every five years since...and is likely between 16 million and 20 million now as a low estimate.

Richard O. Cowan also wrote History of Latter-day Saint Temples from 1831-1990...exact temple figures from 1971-1985 may be available there.

Per one BYU student master's thesis, some of the earlier sealings for the dead occurred in May of 1843:

"On the next day, 29 May 1843, four other sets of sealings took place. First, Hyrum Smith, Jerusha Barden and Mary Fielding Smith were sealed for time and eternity (Mary acted as proxy for the deceased Jerusha). Second, Brigham Young, Miriam Works, and Mary Ann Angell were sealed for time and eternity by Hyrum Smith (Mary Ann acted as proxy for Miriam, who was dead). Third, Willard and Jennetta Richards were sealed. Lastly, Mercy Rachel Fielding was sealed to her deceased husband, Robert B. Thompson."

Ehat 1981 by Andrew F. Ehat December 1982

On the next page of that BYU student master's thesis, its author notes the Mormon doctrine of eternal polygamy for those who have been sealed to more than one spouse "for eternity":
"Not all persons would infer from the doctrine of eternal marriage the necessity of [65] plural marriage as did Hyrum Smith. But as he later said, the death of his first wife, Jerusha, and his marriage to Mary Fielding made plural marriage an unavoidable corollary to the doctrine of eternal marriage." (p. 31)

The thesis revisits this later to show how Joseph Smith tried to hide plural marriage:
"Therefore each person involved in the activities of 29 May 1843 were being sealed to their living and dead "nonplural" spouses. Continuing to take the names in reverse order, let us now consider the marriages performed on 28 May 1843. The only plural wife ever sealed to James Adams on the temple and other records (Rosena R. Adams) was sealed to him on 11 July 1343. Finally, Joseph Smith claimed that he never taught the doctrine of plural marriage in a meeting of the "highest [sic] anointed in the Church in private" (i.e. the endowment council) ("[Nauvoo] City Council Minutes," 10 June 1844, p. 25, Church Archives). That he taught the "anointed" these concepts outside these meetings is undeniable; however, he apparently decided early on not to teach plural marriage in endowment council meetings (which the 28/29 May 1843 meetings were) so he could have such a rhetorical "denial" when pressed closely about the practice of plural marriage in the Church." (same source as above link, pp. 126-127)

From the article:

Today, some American evangelical Christians haunt Bangkok's neon-lit bars at night, paying cash to rent bikini-clad prostitutes for the evening.

That sure sounds naughty.

This is from the official Lds church Web site:

"...In addition there are higher ordinances, performed in the temples. These include washings, anointings, the endowment, and the sealing ordinance, spoken of generally as temple marriage."
"How important are the ordinances to us as members of the Church?"
"Can you be happy, can you be redeemed, can you be exalted without them? Answer: They are more than advisable or desirable, or even than necessary. More even than essential or vital. They are crucial to each of us."
"The Prophet Joseph Smith said he was frequently asked the question:"
"“Can we not be saved without going through with all those ordinances, etc.?” I would answer, No, not the fullness of salvation. Jesus said, “There are many mansions in my Father’s house, and I will go and prepare a place for you.” House here named should have been translated kingdom; and any person who is exalted to the highest mansion has to abide a celestial law, and the whole law too."
"(History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ed. B. H. Roberts, 7 vols. [Salt Lake City: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1949], 6:184.)"

Source: Lds.org: Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple, (2002), 1–37

So, exaltation to the Mormon is living in the "highest mansion" -- living in the presence of Heavenly Father...those who live a one-degree lower heavenly realm, says the Mormon Doctrine & Covenants (76), can live with Jesus but can't abide "the fulness" of Heavenly Father.

And to do so, says Joseph Smith, "ANY person who is exalted to the highest mansion HAS to abide a celestial LAW, AND THE WHOLE LAW, TOO."

So, not only is living with the Mormon god(s) a theology of self-works-righteousness, which includes the so-called "crucial...higher ordinances..." which includes Mormon temple marriage...but since Smith says obedience to the "whole law" is necessary, a reminder from the book of James is in order:

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. (James 2:10)

So, guess what, Mormons? The God of the Bible doesn't grade "on a curve." It's pass-fail. If you keep the whole Mormon law, yet stumble in just a single area -- "one point" -- says James...you are guilty of breaking the entire law!!!

Are you sure you want to keep trusting in yourself being able to obey the Mormon laws, obligations, covenants, rituals and legalistic entanglements perfectly?

Colofornia .... Hey How’s the purveyance of Religious Biggotry going?

Yes, LSD (Mormons) believe that families are forever. And Yes, we believe that to be acceptable in the afterlife, Jesus Christ requested that all marraiges be solemnized by proxy in LDS Temples.

And yes, Colofornian, it’s very likely that at some time your mairrage (presuming you are married) will be performed by proxy in the LDS temple.

But don’t worry too much about it. If we are right, and God did really ask for this ordinace to be done for all of his children, then all you have to do is tell him “No”, I don’t want to live with you in the Celestial Kingdom, and I don’t want to live with my earthly spouse ever again!

If in fact the LDS church is as you say...a fraud, then all it means is that a lot of LDS members have been spending time worshiping God at temples and doing what they believe is his work instead of eating popcorn and watching movies.
