I worked with a man who was as right wing as me. We both were strong anti abortion. That means we were against pro-choice, right? Well, the man’s son came by the office to see his him while his girlfriend sat in the car. He told his dad they were on their way to get an abortion.
After he left the office and was going to his car I asked my friend “Does the girl want to do this?”
My friend replied “I don’t know.” He ran from the office and caught his son and girlfriend before they left. He told his son “Son, this has to be her choice. Have you asked her how she feels about it?”
The son spoke to his girlfriend through the car window and said “This is what you want, right?”
The girl started crying and said she did not want the abortion.
So, our pointing out that it was the woman’s choice saved a baby. Afterwards my friend and I didn’t really understand what had just happened. We don’t believe in it being a woman’s choice. But in this case, the woman made the right choice. And it was because of us that she got the opportunity to make her choice.
This happened in 1992. That little girl has graduated from college, is married and has a child. My friend the grandfather had many wonderful years with his grand daughter before he passed a few years ago. And the kid’s father was so proud of his wife and baby.
One other part of this story. The young man told me one day that he had been up all night with the baby. Everytime she’d start to cry he’d put her in the car and go for a ride. He said “I just can’t stand to hear her cry.”
I thought “You almost didn’t get a chance to hear it.”
God works in mysterious ways....but whatever it takes.
Wonderful Story.
