So much for the First Amendment.

To be a Christian is to be a martyr.

Americans have watched Christians get slaughtered in the Mid-East, Egypt and Africa. We have watched them go to jail in Vietnam and China. They are God’s children too - so what makes us special that we may not undergo such trials someday?

“...state sanctioned marriage.”

I think we’ve discovered the problem...

I guess the Priests would carry out the sacrament in a church and the happy couple would go (either before or after the sacrament) to some appropriately grim public office to sign legal papers.

Not ideal, but then living and working in a totalitarian Marxist state seldom is.

Do you really think this will happen?

I think the Catholic Church will go underground before anything like this is done.

why doesn't a church drop their tax exempt status, fund themselves and do what they want?

“King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Then the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.

And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace.””

Not according to the first amendment. If a law violates the first amendment, it is an unconstitutional law.

The (temporary) remedy will be for priests/preachers to stop signing marriage licenses. Traditional married couples would get a religious marriage and then get a civil ceremony in order to be legally married. This is how it has been done in certain European countries for quite some time, even before SSM.

I don't expect this remedy will hold. Once homosexuality is declared by SCOTUS to be a protected category (in June, 2015), first the tax exempt status of all traditional religions will be stripped, and then there will be moves to criminalize all expressions of opposition to homosexual activity.

And I fully expect violence against church property and maybe clergy (starting with the Roman Catholic Church) this June coinciding with the SCOTUS decision (whichever way it goes) and the "Pride" parades.

Oh well, we should be rejoicing since it looks like Christians will have an opportunity to be persecuted for our faith!

I am so sick of these people that are NOTHING but attention seeking trouble makers. They are fame whores and their only desire is publicity generated by the lame stream media. The truth is:

THESE SO CALLED GAY ADVOCATES DON’T EVEN CARE ABOUT GAY RIGHTS.

Think not? Consider this simple comparison.

I feel as strongly about the 2nd ammendment as they do about gay ‘rights’. Do I care when some organization or business comes out against the right of gun ownership? Yes I do - I AM THRILLED. Because now that they have identified themselves, it makes it easy for me to make sure they never get so much as one dime of my money. Do you think I would sue to try to make these people take my money?

That’s the way people that actually care about a cause react.

The numbskulls that are pushing to force themselves on organizations that don’t want them do not give a dam about their supposed ‘cause.’ All they want is an excuse to attack religion and to gain fame. They are beyond despicable and dishonest. And the people that fall for this nonsense are idiots.

But if they refuse to conduct same-sex rituals, government officials may strip clergy of their state legal standing, rendering their marriages legally invalid in the eyes of the state government.

So everyone gets a civil marriage, and then a church marriage hours, or a day, later. That's how things are done in every Marxist, anti-Christian dictatorship.

Once ( a big if ) the Supreme Court sanctions gay marriage it will therefore be state birthed, sponsored, state enforced, and state sanctioned state religion.

Gay marriage will therefore be a total violation of the 1st admendment.

The bishops should probably have never let their clergy become agents of the state in the first place if the state’s version hasn’t been the correct one for centuries. I mean, as far as the Church is concerned the US civil authorities have never defined marriage correctly in the first place. Now many have been conditioned to believe the state defines marriage. Pope Leo XIII warned about this 130 years ago.

Justice Scalia repeatedly suggested that once a constitutional right to marry by same-sex couples was enshrined by the court, a member of the clergy could not be given civil marriage powers by the state unless he agreed to perform any and all marriages that the nation legally recognizes.

It has never been the case that clergy are required to perform any and all marriages that the nation legally recognizes. For three examples, the nation legally recognizes interfaith and interracial marriages, as well as marriages between previously-married (and divorced) people. Yes, there are clergy who routinely refuse to perform such marriages.

“States could force Catholic priests to perform same-sex ‘marriages’ or lose legal status: Justice Scalia”

Could be the spark to cause a revolt.
