Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In all my years as a musician, I have never had a spear thrown at me! (eggs on one occasion, but that's another story).

Saul's behavior becomes more and more psychotic as his jealousy and fear increase. First, he perceives himself to have been humiliated on the battlefield by David. The songs of the women, meant to praise them both, is interpreted as an insult. Then his beloved son Jonathan pledges undying friendship to David (whom Saul now considers an enemy!). Then David refuses an arranged marriage with Saul's eldest daughter, thus foiling a plan to gain control of the situation.

The worst insult of all is that Saul can perceive that the Lord is with David, but not with himself. This could have been easily remedied with repentance, confession, and a change of heart, what the Greeks called "Metanoya", but Saul would have none of it. He wanted God to bless him on HIS terms, or not at all. The Hebrew Scriptures have many instances of "Metanoya", so it is not a "New Testament Concept". There are even examples of Pagan Kings (such as Nebuchadnezzar) who repented of their sins and were restored.

But Saul was not to choose this road, and his decline is a sad thing to observe.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
