I remember that day clearly.

I was driving through the barley fields north of Sacramento on my way to work. Fr. Neuhous was passing time with Raymond Arroyo waiting for something to report from the St. Peter's Square.

I was in a noisy restaurant, and turned to a (non-Catholic) companion, and said in great excitement, "It's Ratzinger! They've elected Ratzinger Pope!"

He looked at me in confusion and said, "They elected a rap singer as Pope?"
