Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

There are many genealogies in the Bible. Long before DNA Testing and "Paternity suits", the identity of a person's father meant everything. It determined inheritance, tribal affiliation, rank, and identity. In a patriarchal society, the line of heritage is traced through the father.

Yet, in the genealogy of Jesus, in the opening chapter of Matthew, there are four women mentioned. All four are women with "something" in their past. Rahab was a Gentile Harlot in Jericho who helped the Hebrew Spies. Tamar, as we mentioned earlier, tricked her father-in-law Judah into getting her pregnant (Perez was one of the twins from that episode), and now Ruth, a Widowed Foreigner from an idol-worshiping enemy of Israel, caught picking up discarded bits of barley after a harvest.(Just for the record, the fourth woman in the list is Bathsheba.)

So...if any radical feminist tries to say that the Bible doesn't care about women...just point this out!
