It is great sorrow and a heavy heart that His Beatitude Mar Aprem, Metropolitan of India and Patriarchal Vicar, in unison with all the members of the Holy Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East (absent were Mar Aprim Nathniel and Mar Narsai Benyamin due to visa difficulties), announce the falling asleep in the Lord of His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. The late Patriarch passed at 10:04 am, this morning (Thursday, March 26, 2015) at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. His Holiness was surrounded by the prelates, clergy and family members. The prelates and clergy were in constant prayer at His Holiness bedside. The Patriarchs viewing will take place on 7th April at St Andrews Church, Illinois and funeral will take place 8th April at St George Cathedral.
(Note: The Assyrian Church of the East is Nestorian.)
RIP.
Very sorry to hear this.
What a way to go! All those who love you in constant prayer around you!
Blessed by God!
At some point, we let go of this life for the better one to come. Only Faith and Hope and love of God can make you let go and let God.
they do deserve our help though
My understanding is rhey are associated with Nestorians. But existed before Nestorius.
Associated with Nestorians by Westerns. But not Nestorian by dogma. The Persian kings took the chance of the schism to create their “own Christians” so they didn’t have to fear an alliance between “their Christians” and the Christian Roman Empire
As far as i know there were christians in iran (during Parthian rule & before) before Nestorians relocated to then Persia under the Sassanid rule, after theological disputes with the Roman empire. True later about allegiance to the Sassanid for political reasons vis a vis conflict with the Roman empire.
There are still theological disputes & divisions within the Assyrian Church of the East & its connection to Nestorianism. I know quite a few Assyrians who lived in iran; loads of them in iran during the shah’s era.
