SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) Angry parents at a San Francisco Catholic school say theyve had enough and two controversial leaders of their schools church must go.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported over 100 parents from the Star of the Sea School in the citys Richmond District crowded into a meeting with representatives from the Archdiocese of San Francisco Wednesday. Their message was clear: Rev. Joseph Illo, pastor at the schools church since August and Father Patrick Driscoll, the parishs parochial vicar, should be removed from their posts.
Illo and Driscoll gained attention earlier this year when they initiated new policies at the school that instantly upset parents and attracted the media. In January, Illo decided girls would no longer be allowed to act as altar servers during Mass. He also excluded non-Catholic children from receiving blessings while their classmates received communion. He later reversed the second decision.
Driscoll was criticized for handing out pamphlets about confession that made reference to sodomy, masturbation and abortion. Some of the kids who pocketed the hand-out were as young as 7 years-old. Ilo later apologized for the pamphlets, saying handing them out to grade-schoolers had been an oversight.

Am I to assume the parents support sodomy, masturbation, and abortion?
Parents, get your kids outta that school before they get contaminated with Catholic morality. Before you know it they'll be chaste --- oh the social embarrassment!
You beat me to the answer....probably.
Now t is time for the Bishop, no slouch, to advise the parents who complained where the door is and they are welcome to be apart of the Church, but the Church makes the rules.
This is what happens when a church takes government money.
The solution is obvious - stop taking the money and run it as a church school. Otherwise they’re SOL.
Cafeteria Catholicism
Why not? The church certainly knows plenty about sodomy and seven year olds.
Ilo later apologized for the pamphlets, saying handing them out to grade-schoolers had been an oversight.'
He should never have backpedaled. Here's hoping he doesn't do the same thing with the altar girls.
Hopefully Archbishop Cordileone will back him.
What an opportunity....
for Presbyterian USA to start a school !
...I apologize...I’m just a trouble maker. ( ; )
Do Not Buckle Under Archbishop Cordileone, Fr. Illo, Fr. Driscoll
“Here is an example of a good Archbishop and priests being harassed for simply doing what is allowed in the Novus Ordo Catholic Church...
...We are now watching the powerful bulling of the anti-christ of good Catholics by the Spiritually Correct Catholics. Let us stay strong, pray and be willing to suffer rather than be marked with the beast.”
Well, let’s see. The Catholic Church has a major priest shortage and has for years. One of the better sources for vocations is from what were formerly called Altar Boys. I know because I was one for 7 years.
Then along comes Vatican II. The next thing you know, girls are appearing on the altar as Altar Servers. Bye, bye Altar Boys. At my parish, the majority of Altar Servers are girls.
So, since girls cannot grow up and join the priesthood, every girl serving on the altar is replacing a boy who just might end up having a priestly vocation.
Personally, I thought it was nuts having girls as Altar Servers solely from the point of their not being allowed to become priests. As for me, I would encourage every parish pastor to revert to an all boy Altar Server system, a system which offers the potential for more priests.
Many of the kids at the school are not Catholic, it is just the cheapest good education the parents can buy.
Coaches know lots about sodomy and kids, you forgot to mention them.
Cool it. They soda mists and their allies are trying to take down the archbishop. He is the only authority figure in town who is against what you are complaining about. The priests under attack are some of those who do not frequent gay bars.
