Some Cardinals May Fear Blackmail
Catholic Culture ^ | 3/24/15 | Phil Lawler

Almost exactly a year ago, Robert Mickens was suspended from his post as Vatican correspondent for the London Tablet, after he showed his contempt for Pope Benedict XVI with a Facebook comment that he was looking forward to “the Rat’s funeral.” Usually Mickens was more discreet, but that crude comment tells you what you need to know about his perspective.

Having subsequently left The Tablet, Mickens now writes for Global Pulse, a web site that views Catholic affairs from a strongly “progressive” slant. There he has posted another revealing comment, this time on the decision by Scottish Cardinal Keith O’Brien to renounce his privileges in the aftermath of a homosexual scandal.

In a quick series of one-sentence paragraphs that convey a staccato effect, to capture the reader’s attention, Mickens writes about the question of homosexuality:

For far too long this has been the elephant in the rectory parlor.

I know.

And a lot of other people also know that Keith O'Brien is not the only cardinal that has been sexually active during his priesthood.

And he is not the only one that has been sexually involved with other men.

Might some cardinals perceive that passage as a veiled threat? Mickens indicates clearly that he knows—notice the verb; he doesn’t “suspect”—of homosexual activity by at least one other cardinal. If he knows, then it’s possible he will tell. “And a lot of other people also know,” he adds, helpfully. If many people know, isn’t it just a matter of time before someone “outs” a cardinal?

Maybe not. Back in 2003, at the peak of American media coverage of the sex-abuse scandal, several outlets reported about threats by homosexual activists to identify an American cardinal with a history of homosexual activity. That threat was never carried out. Perhaps reporters realized that the story...........

Leftist blackmail - even if the cardinal in question is innocent, it matters not.

“It’s not the facts of the case, it’s the seriousness of the charge...”

Exactly! We that on display here on this forum every day. One priest does something wrong and the world comes down on the whole Church. Never mind due process and all that clatter. Sickening.

You're not kidding! "Logic? Justice? Sane proportion? Pfft! Step aside, and don't get in the way of our 'righteous rage'!" Stupidity and shallowness know no rules but their own made-up ones.

Odd that those who support the rump-rangers are the ones who extort the Cardinals. Let’s not speak of Academe, however.

So, so many cases turned out to absolutely false allegations. Where does a guy go to get his reputation back?

And it’s so easy to make a false charge. All you need is a couple of GLAAD activists who’ll lawyer up and then tell the press, “Yeah, this priest schtupped us when we were in high school.”

It broke my heart the day the priest had to tell all of us teachers to not touch the kids, ever. As you know sometimes a kids needs a boot in the pants and sometimes they just need a pure nonsexual hug. But can't do that, because all the perverts running around. There are days I get so mad! Just come Lord Jesus!

The influence of homosexuals within the Church over recent decades has been well documented, precipitated to a great extent by the sex abuse scandal which was (in the US) over 80% homosexual. The Cardinal Keith O'Brien affair is factual and he has admitted guilt.

Likewise, the havoc wrought in seminaries by homosexual infiltration has also been well documented (see "Goodbye Good Men").

All of this is good!! Not the scandals but their exposure. The Church must be purified and that requires exposure of the corruption which has weakened and sickened it. It requires shining a bright light on the roaches which have infested the priesthood, including those who have climbed in the hierarchy. This is not "crap". Ignoring the issue and pretending everything is hunky dory just won't fly.

Yea better just to pay people off and pretend that all is good in your church ..THAT would be following tradition right?

"...Francis named Wuerl to the Congregation for Bishops, a committee that recommends candidates to fill bishoprics in more than 5,000 dioceses around the world. The position—which he’ll fill while continuing as archbishop of Washington—gives Wuerl a crucial voice in determining the next generation of Church leaders..."

Better to conceal the perverts so they can continue to do their dirty work in the shadows? That's really worked out well for the Church, hasn't it? /S
