Bishop slammed in radio ads for not supporting Immaculata teacher Patricia Jannuzzi (Fight back!)

Story Highlights

SOMERVILLE – A longtime Catholic school teacher suspended from her job after celebrities drew attention to her anti-gay posts on Facebook has become a cause célèbre among a growing number of conservatives rushing to her defense.

And the controversy shows no signs of slowing down as questions remain about whether the teacher will lose her job.

The name of Patricia Jannuzzi, the teacher once known by few outside Immaculata High School and the Immaculate Conception parish until two weeks ago, will be heard by countless thousands Tuesday afternoon when a conservative Catholic group airs its attack ad against Metuchen Bishop Paul Bootkoski.

"Call Bishop Bootkoski now," the announcer says in an ad scheduled to run during the Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity shows on WOR. "Ask him whose side he's on: Catholics who defend our faith or Hollywood liberals who mock it."

The ad is the Lepanto Institute's second. The first aired Friday on the same New York station asking listeners to call the Diocese of Metuchen to demand that Jannuzzi's job be saved.

Jannuzzi's future at Immaculata remains unclear.

On Monday, the Diocese of Metuchen said no decision has been made about her job. But that statement appears to conflict with emails later shared Monday evening by Jannuzzi's attorney, David Oakley.

"At every point in our discussions the diocesan lawyers told us repeatedly there was no way that Patricia Jannuzzi would ever come back to the Immaculata classroom under any possible scenario," Oakley stated. "On Thursday by phone, the diocesan lawyers told me clearly and finally that Patricia Jannuzzi would be terminated as of the end of August, end of discussion."

Her family last week set up a fundraising page to raise $100,000, suggesting that Jannuzzi would be out of a job. After Bootkoski on Friday said that Jannuzzi continues to receive salary and benefits while on administrative leave, the page later clarified to say that Jannuzzi had learned that she would not be reappointed after August.

In a message posted Monday, the family said that the "latest announcement from the diocese suggests that we may have been misinformed about their decision to terminate her in August."

Then, in a new statement released Monday by a spokeswoman, the Diocese of Metuchen said "decisions for all teaching positions for the 2015-2016 academic year are made later in the spring."

"We are baffled and disappointed that there has been a website soliciting funds that is filled with misinformation."

Oakley, however, said that is not the case.

"Something is baffling here, clearly, but not why the Jannuzzi family believed Patricia Jannuzzi had been fired," he said.

In an email he sent Friday morning to a school attorney, Oakley says he is writing "to confirm my understanding of your client's decision with respect to the termination of Patti Jannuzzi."

"I am deeply sorry that we were unable to reach on agreement on terms for Patti's reinstatement," the email continues. "(And, as you know, my client and I remain ready and eager to meet with the Bishop and his advisors to explain our position more fully.) My client's acceptance of salary and benefits does not, and is not meant to, imply any acceptance of or acquiescence in Immaculata's decision to terminate her."

The Roman Catholic Church is pro-gay. Sadly, this is not news.

Looks like the Bishop is feebly trying to waffle, denying Jannuzzi has been terminated as of September.

I'm proud of her for fighting back. I'm going to drop a little spare change in change.org's tip cup for the Jannuzzi fund.

"The Roman Catholic Church is pro-gay."

You'll be glad to learn this is not true.

First, read the quotes from my letter, above, taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and from Abp Jorge Bergoglio/Pope Francis.

Second, there's this:

Third, you may have missed all the whining and bitching from the gay publications and activist organizations about how their initial self-deceiving euphoria has dissolved and how disappointed they now are.

Just so. Catholic haters have made it seem as if Catholic priests are all pederasts. In point of fact, the correct term would be gay, since few of the cases involve children, and the worst of it ended many years ago. And it was never as bad as it is in the public schools, even now.

A fair number of gays crept into the Catholic Church, and a few bishops supported it—Rembert Weakland being the best known. But it certainly was never a position of the Church. And sex crimes by Protestant pastors are at least as common, but one seldom hears about that.

As I’ve said here from the start, decent Protestants and Catholics in the forum need to work together to try to bring our country back to decency, and that can’t be done by attacking each other.

As a Catholic, it saddens me to see corruption in the Protestant churches as well as the Catholic Church. No one should take pleasure in this kind of thing.

Dear Mrs. Don-o,

The teaching of the Holy Catholic Church is that homosexuality to be a grave objective moral disorder, and homosexual acts are intrinsically evil.

But it appears that most of the hierarchs actually running the Church either condone, or approve, or perhaps even are complicit in these gravely evil acts.

They are mostly evil men doing evil deeds. As a people, we have been unfaithful, and God has given us the pastors (wolves) we deserve. May God show us mercy and cut short the time of our suffering by sweeping away this current pack of wolves and giving us true shepherds in their place.

And now for something completely different:

****************

The Pope is visiting New York. A limo driver meets him at the airport. After getting all of Pope John Paul’s luggage loaded into the limo (and he doesn’t travel light), the driver notices that the Pope is still standing on the curb.

“Excuse me, Your Holiness,” says the driver. “Would you please take your seat so we can leave?”

“Well, to tell you the truth,” says the Pope, “they never let me drive at the Vatican, and I’d really like to drive today.”

“I’m sorry but I cannot let you do that. I’d lose my job! And what if something should happen?” protests the driver.

“There might be something extra in it for you,” says the Pope.

Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Supreme Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 105 mph.

“Please slow down, Your Holiness!!!” pleads the worried driver. But the Pope keeps the pedal to the metal until they hear sirens.

“Oh, dear God, I’m gonna lose my license,” moans the driver, wishing he’d never gone
to work that morning. The Pope pulls over and rolls down the window as the cop approaches. But the cop takes one look at him, goes back to his motorcycle and gets on the radio.

“I need to talk to the Chief,” he says to the dispatcher. The Chief gets on the radio and the cop tells him that he’s stopped a limo going a hundred and five on a city street.

“So bust him,” says the Chief.

“I don’t think we want to do that, he’s really important,” says the cop.

The Chief exclaims, “All the more reason!”

“No, I mean really important,” the cop says. The Chief then asks, “Who ya got there - the Mayor?”

Cop: “Bigger.”

Chief: “Governor?”

Cop: “Bigger.”

“Well,” says the Chief, “who is it?”

Cop: “I think it’s God!”

Chief: “What makes you think it’s God?”

Cop: “He’s got the Pope for a limo driver!”

i support the san fran archbishop to impose teacher moral clauses. if the nj bishop wants to cave to susan sarandon and the gay gestapo, then that is his call. still, i find the unwilliness of the nj archdiocese to defend biblical values troubling.

Denial. Denial. Denial. If that works for you, offa other people’s lives. Go ahead, drink that poison. Remember, your account is to you, alone.
