I like the emphasis of John 3:36 where there is this statement: KJV—”He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
From Strong’s Concordance:
First “believeth” “4100” page 58—”...to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing...”
Second “believeth” “544” page 13—”...to disbelieve (willfully and perversely): not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving.”
Some later versions such as the ESV show this difference by rendering the differences in the original text clearly. Obedience is a key element is pleasing God (Acts 6:7; Romans 1:5, 16:26; Malachi 4:1-3; I Samuel 15:22—”...to obey is better than sacrifice...”)
“wrath” “3709” — “...anger, indignation, vengeance...”
Also, three more “vengeance” related verses (II Thessalonians 1:8 ties vengeance to those who “...obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:...”; Jude 7, regarding those in Sodom and Gomorrah who suffered the “...vengeance of eternal fire.”; and, Hebrews 10:30, which should be read in full context).
Thanks for posting such a valuable reminder!
Wow! cool insight! Thanks!
