A recent piece in the Huffington Post suggests that women were given short shrift in the Bible, citing statistics that show women relegated to silence and anonymity. The piece was exploring a book called Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter, which was published in September 2014 by Rev. Lindsay Hardin Freeman, a female episcopal priest.

How about Esther? How about Ruth? How about the woman who helped Elija? How about women who helped Jesus? And, there is more. How about Jesus’s Mother?
The left is stepping up their efforts to force Christians to live literal lives according to the old testament so they can attack us based on that.
These same folks forget that it was a woman who brought Jesus into the world and it was women who were the first to be at His tomb.
Off the top of my head I think of strong women in the Bible:
Sarai; Rebecha; Lot’s daughters; Eve; Tamar; Deborah; Mary; Mary M.; Zipporah; Ruth; on and on . . .. Both actions and words.
Oldplayer
“Men, love you wives as Jesus loved the church.” And we all remember what Jesus did for the church right? Funny how THAT scripture quote is never used in the hit pieces on the faith.
Woman at the well.
Rahab (spies in Jericho).
Woman about to be stoned for adultery.
Mary & Martha.
In general, if you want to see the Father and His values on any subject, look at Jesus and what He did.
The Hebrews treatment of women was far superior to other cultures of the time. The concept of submission has been completely twisted. God created men and women with equal worth, but different roles. I have no problem with that.
“Does the Bible hate women?”
No.
They’re progressives so the only facts that matter to them are the ones they choose to use.
The Bible is a book, it isn’t a person with emotions like hate. What’s really being asked is if the Author hates women. If they believe the Author is the Creator, the answer is certainly no, because He created them. If they don’t believe that, then why do they bother reading it? Wouldn’t Shakespeare or, better, some modern feminist author, suit them better?
Be careful. You are using logic, reason, and common sense and liberals/feminists do not like things like that.
Jesus had a main mission - to be sacrificed on a cross for our sins and to be raised from the dead. He didn’t say anything about homosexuality or rape or some other sins because that wasn’t His mission and, likely, they weren’t major issues among His audience.
As you see the Muslims’ treatment of women today, that was common of the entire Middle East back in the time of Christ. Women received little respect and little consideration. Jesus, in His words and deeds, actually elevated the position of women. In His eyes, they were souls equal to the men. He hung out with Mary and Martha. He verbally supported a prostitute who wept at his feet. He told the woman who was being stoned to go sin no more. There were several other stories of His interactions with women, almost always giving them His respect and time.
This was not true of many men in His time. Women were regarded as little more than slaves.
So the people who want to stereotype Jesus as misogynistic simple fail to understand context and what issues were foremost on Jesus’ mind in the historical time he appeared in.
I just LOVE when Yaelle nailed Sisera’s head to the tent floor and won the Day for Israel!
This is just ridiculous .. is there anybody at the Huffington Post who even believes in GOD, let alone anything else that’s written in the Bible ..??
No, No and NO.
So why is anybody with a brain listening to these idiots.
I think what’s really being attempted here is to create a context and a pretext to ban the Bible altogether, or to give access only to a rewritten, politically correct one.
” Rev. Lindsay Hardin Freeman, a female episcopal priest.”
BIG surprise : )
I believe it is currently out of print but you can find it on Amazon.
Remember that Jesus had the “power” to lay his life down and the power to take it back up.
