But to answer your question, I was not sure that you had recognized that I was referencing a Catholic Priest. Of course people do have conversion experiences and there are people who seem to be more holy than some. Born again is not a term we use. But I am not bent out of shape by the term by any means. I was just trying to see how you meant it in terms of him being a priest, I guess.
No it wasn't, it was mislabeled and was breaking the rules for caucus threads.
Have you ever looked at the Religion Moderator's profile page?
This is part of what it says about caucus threads:
Religion Forum threads labeled Caucus
However, if the poster of the caucus invites you, I will not boot you from the thread.
The caucus article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.
Caucus threads are not intended to be a "safe" place for one denomination to bash other belief systems. That's my take on it anyway.
Feel free to post your own Caucus thread and I will not come on that thread.
I have no reason to post a caucus thread as I welcome dissent and debate as it hones one's understanding of scriptures and deepens our relationship with Jesus. But thanks for the offer...
When I freaking arrived on it yesterday. It was a caucus thread. The fact that it is no longer, is fine by me. I do wish that Catholics could discuss our faith without all the interference, but I realize on this Catholic Hating site that is not to be.
You Must Be Born AgainI have noticed that some Catholics do not know what born again means, some do not see it as necessary, and then some say they are born again.3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him. 3 Jesus answered him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again[b] he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[c] 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, You[d] must be born again. 8 The wind[e] blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
9 Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered him, Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you[f] do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.[g]
According to Jesus;
"Ye must be born again"
John 3
Most Christians understand that to mean a miraculous re-birth of themselves ... and because it's miraculous, human words fail to "explain" the phenomenon.
I know, empirically, I was changed from my inside (that came out and continues to do so) that was realized at the first by my thought process(es)
Many scoffers use the straw man .. "Oh, so you can now do whatever you want and you're STILL going to heaven?"
Which is correctly answered ...YES
The caveat being, because of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost within at the moment of being born again ... your 'wants' change
Yes, I can sin all I want ... I just don't want to
That's the miracle of being born again
And I'll venture the guess concerning Syncro's comment ... only God can perform miracles and God uses people ... so a person with the Holy Ghost within (God, third person) appears to perform when in fact it is God
One who is NOT born again can do nothing because without God, you can do nothing
You certainly can on properly designated caucus threads, but not one ones that do not qualify
...but I realize on this Catholic Hating site that is not to be.
Oh my what a thing to say, broad brush this Free Republic website as Catholic hating?
You couldn't be more wrong.
No one that I have seen hates Catholics, but will debate from scripture with Catholics about their extra- and un-Biblical writings/beliefs.
Look at the articles posted on the Religion Forum, the majority of them are posted by Catholics and are about Catholicism.
If this were an anti Catholic site do you think all of those articles would be allowed? Gimmme a brake...
Open threads can be quite contentious, the RM suggests those that get their feelings hurt easily (thinskinned) that they stay off of open theads.
Yes, yes I know. This one didn't start as an open thread. Perhaps it would help to check out caucus threads to see if they break the rules before posting on them.
God bless you!
If you still think that you're wasting your time and money on a Catholic-hating site, only ten minutes after JimRob told you himself that "Catholics are welcome here", maybe you should reconsider things.
In the interest of good taste, I can’t tell you what you should do. But this will be my last post to you. Not my circus, not my monkeys.. Polish saying.
In the interest of good taste, can you guess what I'm thinking in response?
Late last nite I looked at the Religion Forum latest articles posted.
Of the first 25 or so, they were all posted by Catholics, mainly just one Catholic.
When I switched to latest comments, it was the same story.
Virtually all comments were by a Catholic.
Some of the comments had to be scrolled many times to see all that was posted in each comment.
I’m sure if Catholics weren’t accepted and welcome here they would not be allowed such an excessive amount of bandwidth.
Some of the articles have a small number of responses if any, and some have post after post posted by the OP of the article, with no responses from anyone else.
Now that’s LOVE!
So, if you were in the company of a Christian IRL (in real life) and you didn't like what they said, you would go off on them in a nasty, un-Godly manner? (Just assuming here, I learned Assumption from Catholics here on the Religion Forum)
And then you would have to wait until your next session at confession with another man to confess you sin? And he would forgive you and give you some prayers to pray repetitiously?
Would you have to apologize to the person you offended in such a way?
Just trying to understand Catholicism.
Alex Murphy: Looks like the Religion Forum rules saved you from a real "bad taste" tongue lashing!
Thank God for the civility built into the rules here.
" .. but will debate from scripture with Catholics about their extra- and un-Biblical writings/beliefs."
It's actually just as loving (as a father that disciplines/corrects his cild ... btw .. ABBA (daddy) is accepted as being allowed to do) .. for a peer (we're ALL pilgrims) ... to engage in intellectual dialog
