In his canonization Wednesday morning of Sri Lanka's first saint, Pope Francis cited three reasons why Joseph Vaz sets an example, even today:
Exemplary priest: "He teaches us how to go out to the peripheries, to make Jesus Christ everywhere known and loved."
Transcending religious divisions: "His example continues to inspire the Church in Sri Lanka today. (The Church) gladly and generously serves all members of society. She makes no distinction of race, creed, tribe, status or religion."
Missionary zeal: "I pray that, following the example of Saint Joseph Vaz, the Christians of this country may be confirmed in faith and make an ever greater contribution to peace, justice and reconciliation in Sri Lankan society."
..The pope will canonize Joseph Vaz on Wednesday as Sri Lanka's first saint, but he was actually born an Indian in 1651 in what was then the Portuguese colony of Goa.
Vaz spent 23 years ministering to the Catholic community in Sri Lanka, sometimes working in secret because of the threat of persecution by the island's Dutch rulers, who were die-hard Calvinists.

I guess you don't believe in them anymore ... or at least that a human could perform them
WHAT MIRACLE?
When Pope Francis canonizes Sri Lanka's first saint on Wednesday, he'll again prove he has little tolerance for pointless rules as he skirts the Vatican's normal saint-making regulations. While the church traditionally requires two miracles for sainthood, the Vatican never confirmed a second attributed to the intercession of Vaz, who is credited with reviving Catholicism during anti-Catholic persecution by Dutch colonizers.

You guys have your own version of obola .... destruction from the highest up / within.
What part of Caucus don’t you understand?
Pray for this man, because he makes Satan and his minions hiss with rage.
Vaz, who is credited with reviving Catholicism during anti-Catholic persecution by Dutch colonizers.
It’s in the article.
I saw that and I thought (and ask) ... THAT’S a miracle?

"the conservative caucus"
verbNORTH AMERICAN
verb:
caucus; 3rd person present: caucuses; past tense: caucused; past participle: caucused; gerund or present participle: caucusing
1. hold or form a caucus.
I am concerned with the subject matter in that, as a former Catholic, I have known more than one standard of Roman Catholicism go to the wayside for (whatever reason)
Eating meat on Friday (f'rinstance) and now ... you don't have to perform a miracle to be canonized ...
And most importantly;
My understanding of The Revelation of Jesus Christ points to the world, at the time, accepting anti-Christ which can only mean many religious people accept him as Jesus ...
THAT can only happen because they are blinded
I am here to prevent blindness
And if you don't accept me into your caucus, you're racist
Y'all just can't have a thread without dragging Reformed Christians through the mud, can you?
That is racist.
Good job of comparing with other Christians, breaking the "caucus" rule here on the religion forum.
Notice I didn't ping the Religion Moderator, I'm sure one of you regulars will have the caucus (if that is indeed what you meant, and not Caucasian) designation removed as other belief systems mentioned cannot counter the digs at them.
Also there was a Fr. Bob, that used to work the hospitals. A woman I knew credits him with having healed her child of cancer. Her child was not supposed to make it. They called upon Fr. Bob for last rights. The two year old had a tumor the size of a softball in his head. Fr. Bob came and the tumor inexplicably started to shrink, in a matter of days the thing was small enough for the doctors to do surgery on. The child is 26 now. Cancer free all these years later.
Perhaps the miracle is that Vaz was able to make it so that these men, and many like them could become priests. Fr. Polycarps, sister is a sister and worked with Mother Teresa.
LOL, the racist aspect was my argument as originally it said "caucas" not caucus.
It looks like the RM caught up with the thread and rightfully took off the caucas/caucus addendum to the title.
I mentioned it to the Catholics before the thread was locked yesterday, hoping one of them would hit the abuse button and apologize for using a caucus label when it was breaking the rules.
I hope one of them stood up for the rule breaking, but probably not because they think if they put caucus on a thread, it doesn't matter if it breaks the rules.
But they sure will scream if any one not in their denomination even comes close to breaking a rule!
That being said, making "super" saints is un-Biblical and leads to all kinds of extra-Biblical actions which puts them a step or two away from God.
We are all designated saints by God when we become born again, God's word is good enough for me.
This Bob guy sounds like he is a born again Christian. Which means Jesus is in him and he in Jesus.
I certainly hope he told the grateful woman that he did not do the healing, but it was Jesus who healed so the glory would go to the source.
Great story, happy ending!
I clicked on this (in my history) and saw my two comments were deleted .. so I shrugged
Then the thread disappeared .... and I shrugged
And here it is again
I had no idea all of what you explained was going on ... I thought I had just ticked someone off and ... well ... I shrugged
Wonder wherre this will go now
Thanx for your effort
What part of Caucus dont you understand?
Riddle me this: Can you find why it is not a caucus?
It looked for a while that Catholics were being given special permission to post faux caucus threads.
Not sure what you mean by born again. Catholic priest and all. But of course it was Jesus working through Fr. Bob. Prayers annoiting etc.
It had been a Catholic Caucus thread. Feel free to post your own Caucus thread and I will not come on that thread.
I dealt with it with humor, caucas, making it ok for Caucasians to post on it...
Like most of my humor, no one laughs...LOL!
"Not sure what you mean by born again."
or are you baiting?
