Yes he is..the first Jesuit pope in Romes history
The Jesuits don’t seem to have re-published the cartoon of the Trinity engaging in sodomy, which was Charlie Hebdo’s comment on Catholic opposition to gay marriage. Ann Barnhardt linked to it recently, to make this point: No Catholic killed anyone in response.
Fancy that.
And when I point out that Catholicism teaches that there is no salvation outside of it, I get accused of being *poorly catechized* but when the POPE says it.......What? He is poorly catechized, too?
The pope’s name is “francis”,
But he learned Marx and Lenin from the Jesuits.
You know, it occurred to me that that might just be the point they are trying to make.
The difference is, he knows what that means.
Waiting for the Pope to chastise his buddies.
If your religion, and your God, cannot withstand mockery, then your religion, and your god, are no more potent than those who mock them.
Cults trying to one up each other.
I heard an updated version of the joke with a Lexus. Truth be told, though, most Jesuits are familiar with the Novena to St. Francis Xavier, one of their founding fathers:
O most lovable and loving Saint Francis Xavier in union with thee I adore the Divine Majesty. The remembrance of the favors with which God blessed thee during life and of thy glory after death fills me with joy; and I unite with thee in offering to Him my humble tribute of thanksgiving and of praise. I implore thee to secure for me through thy powerful intercession the inestimable blessing of living and dying in the state of grace. I also beseech thee to obtain for me the favor I ask in this novena. (Mention your intentions here, or simply pause to allow people to form their intentions silently if this is being prayed publicly) But if what I ask is not for the glory of God and for the good of my soul do thou obtain for me what is more conducive to both. Amen.
V: Pray for us, Saint Francis Xavier,
R: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be
St. Francis Xavier Church near my parents' house was run for years by Franciscans . . . very good holy men but a bit kooky as so many OFM/Convs are . . . it always tickled me that the fathers in residence were named Cletus, Leo, and Wilfred. Fr. Chuck was the outlier . . .
A classic Franciscan Moment produced the worst Catholic music ever when Fr. Wilfred's cell phone went off in his pocket playing mariachi music while he was trying to play guitar (he couldn't, bless his heart). Somewhere Palestrina, Byrd and Victoria were weeping . . .
Their home province is out in the Midwest, and the superior pulled everybody out of SGA late last year. The Bishop of Savannah (also by coincidence an OFM) is staffing the church with diocesan clergy.
