I have a couple of suggestions that helped me survive a really difficult year.
- Attend a Life in the Spirit seminar. Just walking into a room full of welcoming, loving, people; praising God, listening to testimonies of people who have recieved the Extraordinary Gifts of the Holy Spirit, the being prayed over is quite a joyful and peaceful experience.
- Make a Consecration. Whether the St. Louis de Montfort, or one to the Immaculate Heart, A 33 day Consecration is great-especially around Lent. You can pray it at home, as well as in church
- Attend a Parish Mission If you haven't, these can be great, and the beginning of many spiritual blessings in your life. These are usually in Spring and Summer.
- Regarding #7: There's Bishop Fulton J. Sheen; Fr. Nelson Baker; and one I found to be a real treasure: Sr. Marie Françoise Therese, also known as Léonie Martin, the sister of St. Therese of Lisieux! There is a wonderful video about her, called "Leonie!" from Ignatius Press.
- Try some books on the Spiritual Life, such as those by St. John of the Cross; the Cure of Ars; St. Teresa of Avila- anyone who catches your eye or your heart and treat your self to a few pages every day. I had otherwise a very difficult year: I enjoyed a book called, "Dialogue in Times of Tribulation" by St. Thomas More. It gave a lot of meaning to what I was going through.
I hope I'm not sounding pedantic. If I am, I apologize. :) I lost 4 family members last year, the first entry on a whole list of troubles. It is only because of these things in my life that I made it through the year: that and the beginning of a devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe!
God bless you all, and give you a peaceful and holy 2015!
