I don’t think that many of these women are sincerely concerned about any cause or principle; I think it’s “all about them”.

There are some sincere old-school liberal activists left; but in my experience, most have been less dedicated to a cause, than they’ve simply been ‘in love’ with the notion of themselves AS activists. It makes them feel important...

There's a lot of truth there. Especially for the romantic young, activism supplies an identity and a sense of belonging to an elite group that knows, feels, and cares more than other people do.
