Pray for our American Heroes

Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles
and for glory to your people Israel.”
(Luke 2:25-32)

Righteous Father, we come to You in faith and reliance, knowing that You have all we need.

Father, we pray that You would comfort our troops who are far from home this Christmas season, and their families as well.

Sovereign Lord, You gave to Simeon a great gift, a gift many longed for and did not receive: to see the Lord’s Christ. And when he received it, he praised You. Sometimes, Father, we wait long for Your promises, but when You fulfill them, You fulfill them mightily. When, after centuries, Christ finally came, He brought a kingdom and a salvation and a love greater than anyone had ever imagined. As we remember how Israel waited for Your consolation, help us to have faith and to know hope. For we, too, have seen Your salvation, which You prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel. And so we pray to You, our Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ Your Son, Amen.
