Another pronouncement that got mistranslated?

Kinda like saying "Barefoot and pregnant" is good!!
Wonder who cooks for the pope.

That’s gonna go over well with the feminazi gang.

I would like to note the increased presence of women still not too many
they are the strawberries on the cake, but we need more Certainly glad there are not too many, Popey, and what about that sweet tooth of yours. More strawberries? Whipped cream too?
I get to say this because I grew up exceedingly Catholic, educated by nuns and priests. Could NOT WAIT to graduate and leave it all behind, shook my dainty ladylike fist at the church door and said goodbye forever. Really, incredibly fed up with being the best student in the class and never praised, never noticed, in fact, because I was a strawberry, apparently.
Things never change.

"In this light, within the increasingly diverse composition of the Commission, I would like to note the increased presence of women still not too many
they are the strawberries on the cake, but we need more a presence that becomes an invitation to reflect on the role that women can and should play in the field of theology. It's pretty clear from the context of statement this is placed in that the Pope was not intending to be condescending or insulting by this term. Looks to me like he was calling attention to the variety and specialness these women bring to what had been up to now, a gathering of stuffy old men.
People are so conditioned now to find fault in everything this Pope says, they're ready to blow up the most innocent comment. He's said some pretty puzzling things to be sure, but this isn't one of them.

What’s the “specialness” of female theologians over male?
And why are they referred to as strawberries rather than a second layer of the cake?

I could be wrong, but there may be a pun or some sort of metaphor involved in either Spanish or Italian that has gotten lost. Or maybe the present Pope does not always extensively think about what he is going to say at what are, for him, fairly routine low-level addresses. Or both.

"Whats the specialness of female theologians over male?" Women definitely have a different way of looking at things than men do. Even given the same data, they can have unique insights.
"And why are they referred to as strawberries rather than a second layer of the cake?
That might have been a good way to put it, too. Given the predictable flack he'll take over this innocent statement, arguably a better way-- though I suspect people would have found a way to be outraged about that, too.

"Thirty members are appointed to the International Theological Commission by the Supreme Pontiff for a term of five years, after which they may be reappointed. The Commission is attached to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith."Now the Inquisition has chicks. Oh, boy. The resumption of torture cannot be far behind.
