Full Title: 'A.D.' Series' Trailer Released; Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's 'The Bible' Followup Slated for Easter Sunday Premiere [VIDEO]

____________________________________________________________________

NBC just released the first official trailer of the upcoming "The Bible" followup, "A.D." which will focus on the events after the death of Christ and the formation of the early church.

The show will debut on NBC Easter Sunday 2015, and the trailer shows some of the violent and tumultuous times surrounding the last days of Christ.

"The Bible" and "A.D." was created by husband and wife duo Mark Burnett and Roma Downey.

"These disciples, after Jesus dies and resurrects, the Holy Spirit comes upon them and there is only one way for them-that's spreading the good news of Jesus," said Burnett to Forbes Magazine, "What a drama. At some level it's Game of Thrones, House of Cards. ... This could become NBC's biggest series in many, many years." Even if it's not, part of the biblical genre's appeal is its global safety net: Noah, for instance, failed to earn back its $100 million budget in the U.S., but it's gone on to earn $355 million worldwide.

The duo also revealed that before The Bible miniseries appeared on the History Channel last year, they consulted with multiple religious figures such as Joel Osteen, T.D. Jakes, Cardinal Donald Wuerl and Rick Warren to ensure that nothing controversial or inaccurate would appear in the series which starred Diogo Morgado as Jesus Christ.

Wow! What better way to ensure nothing controversial would be included than to have Osteen included as a consultant.

And why a modalist like Jakes?!?

Let’s see if NBC is producing it... they’ll ask for a gay black man to be one of the apostles... Or Jesus to be a cross dresser or something that is NOT in the Bible.

Shame Reverend Ike is dead, they surely would have sought out his wisdom.

It would be perfect if they had Obama do a cameo as Satan.

They’ll just add a Bible story about two “gay” men having stones thrown at them and Jesus will put a stop to it or something.

NO QUESTION that a black man WILL be an apostle. That is, without doubt, in some union contract. If not one of the twelve then one of the 72 that Jesus sent out. NO QUESTION.

From Wikipedia: The seventy disciples or seventy-two disciples (known in the Eastern Christian tradition as the Seventy Apostles) were early students of Jesus mentioned in the Gospel of Luke 10:1–24. According to Luke, the only gospel in which they appear, Jesus appointed them and sent them out in pairs on a specific mission which is detailed in the text. In Western Christianity, they are usually referred to as disciples, whereas in Eastern Christianity they are usually referred to as Apostles.

Osteen say I don’t know so many times, I don’t know why people listen to him.

They clearly are either ignorant or dishonest by choosing Osteen and Warren as consultants.

My 8 year old son would be more qualified to spot Biblical truth/ untruth.
If they were serious (about truth) they would have Dr. Robert Jeffress from FBC Dallas and/ or Senior Pastor Jimmy Evans from Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo as top consultants. There are certainly a few other well qualified people, but those are the ones I've attended church under have known personally for many years.

That said, they sure did a bang up job of picking consultants so as to avoid controversy. . . from the left that is. They will surely err on the side of offending those of us who take the Bible seriously.

Besides that, a non controversial account of events with such critical importance cannot truly be portrayed without drawing controversy. So why even try unless you plan to cave where it matters most, and then try to marginalize true evangelicals who will no doubt be critical?

Standing on solid and unchangeable truth will necessarily draw out the hate of the left towards Biblical Christianity. The Bible itself says we will be persecuted in such instances. I don't expect for a minute that this crowd would approve injecting the kinds of truth that would no doubt draw criticism from the left.

So basically their unbiblical goal of not creating controversy sets the whole thing up for doom from the beginning. Way to go. Not.

For those who may be interested in this I would strongly recommend a television mini-series “Peter & Paul” from back in the 80’s I think. I’ve got the DVD so I’m sure it can be found on Amazon if not youtube. This was the golden age of the TV miniseries and I think it was following up on the success of Zefferelli’s “Jesus of Nazareth”. It was a big budget series with an “A” list cast featuring Anthony Hopkins as the Apostle Paul. It basically follows the book of Acts with a focus on the ministries of Peter and Paul. Hopkins does an awesome job of acting and gives a very nuanced performance which just nails Paul. For example, Hopkins uses a slight stutter when he gets excited to express Paul’s characterization of being slight of speech. Lots of attention to detail like that made this an excellent series. Robert Foxworth does a good job as Peter but Hopkins really steals the show. Highly recommended.

I'm not trying to be a know it all- because I certainly do not know it all.

But in case you are interested, I recall looking up the technical difference between a disciple and an Apostle (New Testament figures), and here is what makes an Apostle distinctly different. (Note I had to look it up because my inquisitive home schooled kids asked me. I guess they keep me on my toes.)

Apostles are recognized as those commissioned by God to write the New Testament. The early church was very careful to make sure that the books canonized were in fact written by authors that actually walked with Jesus.
Paul did walk with Jesus of course (at least was encountered by Him) on the road to Damascus, and went from persecuting Christians to preaching Jesus is the messiah.

There may be different terminology or definitions in other areas, but this is the general understanding within the evangelical community.

God bless you and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

An apostle is chosen by Yeshua to lead; a disciple is one that commits to follow.

Yeshua had thousands of disciples, but only 12 apostles.

"They clearly are either ignorant or dishonest by choosing Osteen and Warren as consultants."

I believe it is purely a marketing decision to associate their name with the show.

The true gospel has always been very “controversial.”

No surprise that it is omitted.

Then they are obviously not “marketing” this to believers!

From Google: The word “disciple” refers to a learner or follower. The word “apostle” means “one who is sent out.”

Your definition described APOSTLE. I am just adding about the disciples. I imagine the 70-72 disciples sent out by Jesus had learned about Jesus from the Apostles.

I know that Paul went to Rome and the Romans didn't believe him (since he wasn't one of The Twelve) so Paul sent for Peter. Obviously Peter was successful as he was martyred there and his remains are one floor down below St. Peter's Basilica. Peter was crucified UPSIDE DOWN as he didn't believe that he earned the honor of dying like Jesus did.

That all happened on Vatican Hill, NOT one of the seven hills of Rome. There are 3.3 billion Christians, 1.6 billions of those being Catholic. I guess Peter was convincing!

Thanks for your interest. I am always interested in hearing good historical stuff. History is important because it tells us who we are and why we are the way we are.

God bless you too and have a very nice Thanksgiving.
LEFTOVERS! Yum.
