Conservative Cardinal Burke loses another Vatican post

VATICAN CITY — American Cardinal Raymond Burke, who championed campaigns to deny Holy Communion to Catholic politicians who support abortion, was removed by Pope Francis from another top Vatican post on Saturday.

The removal of Burke as head of the Holy See's supreme court was widely expected in Catholic Church circles.

While he was archbishop of St. Louis, from 2003 to 2008, he led fellow American bishops in campaigns to stop giving Holy Communion to Catholic politicians who support legalized abortion. He has questioned some of the pontiff's pronouncements and approaches.

Last year, Francis took Burke off the Vatican's powerful Congregation for Bishops, dealing with appointments of bishops worldwide.

On Saturday, he transferred Burke from the Vatican court job to the largely ceremonial post of patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a charity whose activities include hospitals and residences for the elderly around the world.

Burke, 66, would have had a good decade remaining to continue serving in high-profile Vatican posts

If Cardinal Burke were not such a holy man he could have told Francis he voted for Obama. He would have gotten a promotion instead of demotion.

What is the real story behind these reported actions. What has he done so egregiously wrong that it merits what appears to be a major demotion?

“The prophecy of the popes” which seems like a hoax in its construction.
Written in vague indistinct fashion that could be interpreted however one wishes.

May he, like Cincinattus, be recalled to service of the Church in a more useful role.

The pope wants the “princes of the church” (cardinals) to give up their lavish lifestyles and embrace humility. Sounds good to me.

The Catholic church is reaching the levels of debauchery and corruption they had in the Middle Ages.

Oh, I forgot. And embrace poverty along with humility.

And embrace poverty along with humility.

And embrace homosexuals (repentance evidently not required).

Sounds like the current Pope really is a master of destruction not likely to help build up your church.

Bet Burke’s regal raiments in that photo explain to a high degree the pope’s disapprobation of him. Francis sees ostentatiousness as ill befitting the clergy.

Try buying a clue before making yourself look utterly ignorant.

This has not a single thing to do with "humility." If it did, Francis would be the one who needs the lesson.
