Zobell said: “I am so tired of self-righteous members of my own Church telling me I cannot be a Democrat and a good Mormon ... I cannot see how anyone can read the Book of Mormon and the New Testament and not have more compassion and charity for others.”

His error is not recognizing the difference between charity, a personal decision to help, and voting to allow government to force people to support what the government calls charity.

There is a reason the Founders did not give government the right to take from one and give to another based on “charity”.

Government charity corrupts all involved, from the taxed to the Trough Feeder distributing the “charity” to the recipient.

As a Mormon, Zobell should know the LDS church has a very active charity program, but requires all members, even those on Mormon charitable support, to contribute 10% to help those even less fortunate.

“To take from collective Peter and give to selected Paul” can’t be done by Trough Feeders in government without enormous waste and rampant corruption.

Consider the results of private and religious charity compared to Government charity - Government charity produces life long parasitic dependents on Government charity.

Private and religious charities do not support those who simply won’t become self supporting.

As a certain carpenter was reputed to have said, “Those who will not work shall not eat.” Hunger is, after all, nature’s ‘Behavioral Reality Check’.

Zobell knows better - he is merely exercising his “Inner Democrat”.

One must wonder how Zobell rationalizes substituting Jesus’ position on the work/charity issue with that of such collectivist infected politicians as Roosevelt and other Democrats.

That was a certain tentmaker, St. Paul. "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat." 2 Thessalonians 3. KJV
