Among Republicans, the numbers are even more dramatic: 59 percent said that they believe that churches should speak out on the political issues of the day; 53 percent dont believe that political leaders spend enough time talking about their faith; and 72 percent believe that it is important that members of Congress have strong religious beliefs.
Clearly, they want to get a better sense of the faith that animates a politicians values and how grounded they are in their faith. Many Americans have come to understand that if you know about a candidates faith then you can get a pretty good idea of where they stand on important issues of the day and where they will stand on the other issues that may come up in the future.

Obummers agrees. He wants sharia law. I'd rather have next to none than his idea of religion. Look at Europe...practically crippled by the mullahs.
My United Methodist church won’t touch topics like abortion or homosexuality. I’ve had a few of our pastors over the years tell me that it’s too controversial and might offend some of the church members.
Obviously, in my opinion, the whole United Methodist church organization is pathetic when it comes to Biblical teachings.
They get goofy over gambling (no raffles are allowed ever), but faggotry and killing of the unborn are too controversial.
I’m very disgusted with them and hardly ever to go church anymore.
a number that dropped from an already dismal 37 percent in 2009. The news is full of events that explain why.
Makes some sort of sense though, religion being what it is.
May I also welcome you to our friendly little site?
Humblegunner will be along soon with his best wishes.
Enjoy your stay.
At least want more of the Jewish/Christian kind.
Find the nearest Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod and find a home there. I left the UMC and did it 26 years ago, I've never looked back.
Thank you for the welcome!
I think they were being sarcastic. Not a religiously friendly environment. Unless you fit into the mold.
What mold would that be, Vermont Lt?
I also do not like their stance on Palestine.
I was raised in the U. Methodist church. I don’t go there anymore.
Not jewish, catholic, or Mormom.
We can be God fearing, I am just not sure which version of God.
We can be God fearing, I am just not sure which version of God.
Well, if you're saying that Jews, Catholics, and Mormons each hold to different versions of God, perhaps you can explain why multiple Gods should be worshiped.
Really?
What anyone worships is their business.
I don’t care. And I don’t proclaim from the hills what you should worship either. Because my salvation is my problem, not yours. You do not get points in heaven for saving me.
This site would be a lot better if people stuck to the Constitution and did not try to impose an official religion.
In any event, we are all likely to be wrong in the end.
I was simply warning this guy that religious discussion on this site is a wasted effort. No one is willing to discuss. You all just want to preach. And...that was boring when I was a kid. It was boring as a young adult. And as I approach my senior years...its even more boring.
And you have appointed “your” God as the supreme God.
And what if he isn’t?
.... And you have appointed your God as the supreme God. And what if he isnt?
Sounds like you've got quite the sermon started there! Don't let me stop you. Usually when I get multiple posts in response, it means I've touched a nerve. Case in point:
You all just want to preach. And...that was boring when I was a kid. It was boring as a young adult. And as I approach my senior years...its even more boring.
Have a good night.
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”- John Adams
Our rights come from God, and our framework for government was designed with a people who aspire to Judeo-Christian beliefs in mind. The French Revolution aspired to a secular society, and failed. When the US aspires to a purely secular society, it too will fail.
