Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

It would appear, from this Gospel Passage, that there was a well developed system of Law in Roman-Occupied Judea. It seems that there were Magistrates appointed to adjudicate minor civil matters, and they had the power to judge and execute punishment.From what Jesus is saying, the magistrate's decision could be arbitrary, and the punishment, harsh! How much better would it be if people could work out their differences and "Settle out of Court"!

Today, we still have Magistrates, who handle a lot of civil matters, such as in Family Court.
Even though the System is different, the Principle Taught in the Gospel is STILL Excellent Advice!
