Actually, most people don’t understand it. According to Jewish law, and therefore the original meaning, adultry is...
“Sexual intercourse of a married woman with any man other than her husband. The crime can be committed only by and with a married woman; for the unlawful intercourse of a married man with an unmarried woman is not technically Adultery in the Jewish law.”

So even if you don’t accept divorce, if the man marries a woman who previously was never married, there is no adultery going on, according to the original meaning of the commandment.
Catholic definition:
Adultery
2380 Adultery refers to marital infidelity. When two partners, of whom at least one is married to another party, have sexual relations - even transient ones - they commit adultery. Christ condemns even adultery of mere desire.171 The sixth commandment and the New Testament forbid adultery absolutely.172 The prophets denounce the gravity of adultery; they see it as an image of the sin of idolatry.173
2381 Adultery is an injustice. He who commits adultery fails in his commitment. He does injury to the sign of the covenant which the marriage bond is, transgresses the rights of the other spouse, and undermines the institution of marriage by breaking the contract on which it is based. He compromises the good of human generation and the welfare of children who need their parents’ stable union
Hehehe... one thing I’ve learned in this life, is that if you REALLY want to piss people off, start looking up definitions...
and Jesus said that even if you view a woman with lust in your heart, you are essentially committing adultery with her.
In the ancient pagan world, it was about your wife being unfaithful, but the servant girls and slaves were fair game. So were the servant boys and your male pupils. Of course, none of these people had a say if they wanted to have sex or not.
Ah, but “who am I to judge”? Bull.
We docs don't “judge” our patients, but often we point out the harm they are doing to themselves and their families.
