Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Jobs In The Bible

Engraver

(New International Version (NIV)

10 in the order of their birth—six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other. 11 Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings 12 and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the Lord.

(Exodus 28:10)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As a child, I spent many hours in the Egyptian Galleries in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. At first, I was fascinated by the Mummies (What kid isn't?), but as time went on and I matured, I became much more interested in the Jewelry and tiny Amulets of Ancient Egypt. Gold was used in abundance, but what was really gorgeous were the glass and precious stones that were fashioned and engraved into intricate necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
A unique form of jewelry, worn by royalty, was the "Pectoral Ornament". Several of these were found in King Tut's Tomb, and I had the thrill of seeing them when the King Tut Exhibit toured the world back in the 1960's.

The Breastplate of Aaron, designed by the Almighty and conveyed to Moses in the Torah, is a unique pectoral ornament. Instead of depicting the gods of Ancient Egypt, it displays the Twelve Tribes of Israel, with a precious stone for each Tribe, arranged in a prescribed manner, over the heart of the High Priest. The names of each tribe were engraved right into the stone, which was an amazing art in and of itself. The art of the Engraver was a lot more difficult in the days before diamond drill bits and power tools.

The High Priest had a job to do. He had to stand between the People and God as an Intermediary. Being a sinner himself, he had to offer an atoning sacrifice for his own cleansing before he could represent the People. And, over his heart, he wore the Breastplate, carrying the names of the Sons of Israel before the LORD.

Both Jeremiah 31 and Proverbs 7 speak of "Engraving the Law upon your heart". And Isaiah speaks of the LORD telling us He has Engraved US upon the Palms of His Hands.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Aaron's Ephod and Breastplate"

ND take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.
And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.

And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.

And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and of purple, of scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.

It shall have the two shoulderpieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof; and so it shall be joined together.

And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel:

Six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth.

With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold.

And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

And thou shalt make ouches of gold;

And two chains of pure gold at the ends; of wreathen work shalt thou make them, and fasten the wreathen chains to the ouches.

And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it.

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far;
The LORD hath called me from the womb;
From the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
