Angels in popular culture are always lovely, dainty women, or pudgy little cherubs. Angels in Scripture must have been completely different, because it seems whenever they appeared, their first words were ‘Fear not’. They must have been a powerful sight to behold.

Lol. We clearly follow different pop culture. But that is unimportant.

Angels deliver God’s word and God’s Judgments on many occasions. Terrifying in the later role? The word does not do the fearsome reality justice per scripture.

Angels in Scripture must have been completely different

One of my "guilty pleasures" in the movie realm is the movie, The Prophecy, in which Christopher Walken portrays Gabriel. However, in this movie, one of the characters, who is an expert on "angels", says the same thing you did, that angels are not "angelic" in scripture. He listed all of the rather nasty things they did, and then asked; "Would you ever really want to meet one?"
