If you’ve been watching the nightly news and wondering how in the world you can possibly help amidst the rising tide of violence that seems to be running rampant, mark your calendars for September 6-7. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for a special collection that will enable each of us to help with the work being done by Catholic Relief Services, Caritas, and other Catholic agencies in the region. CRS food distribution.

CRS food distribution.

Over at the CRS website, you’ll find a comprehensive overview of steps being taken by the agency to aid the million plus individuals who have been displaced from Iraq due to the crisis. The short and long term needs include:

-- Food, Water and Essential Living Supplies

-- Psychological and Social Support, and Trauma Healing

--Education for Internally Displaced Children

--Preparation for Longer-Term Resettlement

TOPICS: Catholic; Religion & Culture
KEYWORDS:
Not a big fan of CRS here for many reasons, but for a major drive to help somewhere specific in the world(displaced Christians and Iraqis) they certainly carry heft and efficiency which relates to more bang for the buck over smaller groups.

Since the Catholic Church left me, I no longer get their email memos, so I have no clue, just exactly where in the Middle East do the ignored-by-me U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops intend to spread their (and our) charitable inclinations?

A profoundly critical question and answer.

I am holding my breath.

That really doesn't answer the question, does it.
Where exactly will the charitable donations go? Countries and groups responsible for distribution, please.

Will the donations be "taxed" by the recipient authorities?
Will the local corrupt politicians or leaders insist on making the distribution themselves?

Is Hamas, ISIS/ISIS on the recipient list?

“Since the Catholic Church left me,”

So how did the Catholic Church leave you?

The Catholic Church leaves no one. Everyone is welcome. Or maybe I should say “Everyone is welcome to come back.”

I just showed a gentleman around our new church this morning. He lived nearby and watched it being built. He left the church over 20+ years ago, I surmised, and a divorce was part of the reason. I informed him of programs that we had and invited him back. I also gave him the website address and advised him to listen to some of our pastors sermons. (One of his complaints was that pastors were always asking for money.)

He assured me that he would be back.

You can come back too. Ask a priest to sit down with you and discuss your issues...get answers to your questions. You may be surprised.

I also gave this gentleman information about a healing weekend for divorced people.

God’s will be done.

publius wont reply, he’s just a posting addict who has to get on his very own soapbox 20+ or 30 times a day and fill everyone else up with his unsolicited opinions.

the Republican party is politics, and political science teaches that a political party has to swing or sway towards the electorate. I.E. the Republican Party has and does change to accomodate the culture.

The Catholic Church being the only institution that doesnt sway or change to accomodate the culture, the thinking of the age. Its doctrines and teachings have not changed one bit.
