I understand the outstreched arms. As a Baptist I don't pray that way either. But I understand that they are raising their hands to heaven and showing that they are clean, because Christ has cleaned them. I think it's a move that originated in the Pentecostal movements. But I believe there is a scripture reference somewhere to that as well.

This site has several scripture references on it. I didn't look them up.

It's not my preference either, but given that there are scriptures to back the practice, there are worse things you could be worried about.
