Yes, but those benefits used to come at a price. You didn’t get them unless you committed to a lifelong arrangement that was enforceable by law.
The straights abandoned that for convenience’s sake, and that is what makes the arrangement attractive. If homos had to actually stay with each other for life, I don’t think they would be be so keen on it.
