"How Hobby Lobby Split the Left and Set Back Gay Rights" (The Atlantic)
The Atlantic ^ | 7/21/14 | Molly Bally

Posted on 07/22/2014 1:56:20 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

In the Hobby Lobby decision handed down last month, the Supreme Court was asked to strike a balance between women’s rights and religious freedom. But the major conflict that has erupted in the wake of that decision has been between religious freedom and gay rights. The resulting controversy has split gay-rights and faith groups on the left, with wide-ranging political fallout that some now fear could hurt both causes.

One chapter of the controversy is set to close on Monday, when President Obama plans to sign a long-awaited executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating against gays and lesbians, according to a White House official. But the debate that began over that order’s provisions for religious nonprofits has spilled over into a broader conflict. Many prominent gay-rights groups have now withdrawn their support from a top legislative priority, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, over the religious exemption it contains.

“The religious exemption debate has now been polarized to the point where people are saying, ‘All or nothing,’” said Lanae Erickson Hatalsky, director of social policy for the center-left think tank Third Way, whose research and activism on gay marriage have been instrumental to that cause’s mainstream acceptance. “The narrative that’s now beginning to form is that Democrats are against religion. It’s not true, and it’s very dangerous.”

That happens to me a lot. Apparently gays need abortion, too.

Nancy Pelosi and others realized after they lost the 2004 election that they had to add more "God talk" to their policy rhetoric ("Jesus would WANT Obamacare, "I am my brother's keeper", etc.) to close the "God gap" (their own term).

They aren't religious. They need to shuck and jive to sway the "bitter clingers" (in the black community) who still follow all that religious mumbo jumbo.

HUH???

The Hobby Lobby case had nothing to do with queers and fags.

What use do "gay" people have for birth control?

The queers are pushing mighty hard to turn the Hobby Lobby case into a queers case.

The narrative that’s now beginning to form is that Democrats are against religion.

I agree that this is not true. Democrats are very religious. Their gods are Big Government, or GAIA, and self.
They are very much against Christianity and Christ though, if that what they meant.

Democrats are against Christianity and Biblically founded morality. They are fine with religion and statolatry. As long as leftists can make up their own morality, or use the State to determine what is morally acceptable and what isn’t, the left is happy. It’s when the State’s immoral hegemony falls short of the left’s hedonistic ambitions that Democrats get huffy.

Hobby Lobby very much has to do with LGBT people.

First, Hobby Lobby lays out a template for closely held companies to seek to be immune from a future federal civil rights law or judicial holding which imposes gay marriage or employment non-discrimination for gays.

Second, the gay lobby very much wants to make hormone and surgical gender transition a covered medical expense and to guarantee transitioning / transitioned workers job security, right to use bathrooms of their choice, etc.

Pope Benedict declared in his homily at the opening of the conclave in 2005:
"We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate standard consists solely of one's own ego and desires."

I think Pope Benedict has put the matter in a nutshell. We are hopelessly spoiled!

Reading the comments at The Atlantic site; there’s some real hatred for religious people, with atheists denying that Stalin, Hitler & Mao were atheistic mass murderers.

When CWII begins, it’s going to be apocalyptic.

The Hobby Lobby decision is settled law, therefore, the left has no right to complain. (Isn’t that what we were told about Obamacare?)

I really don’t get what the reward is for reading these long, navel-gazing Atlantic articles. All this time goes by and you learn nothing about random points of ideation that nobody could give a crap about. You submit your mentality to be led down rubbish-strewn corridors that smell of bodily functions, again, leading to conclusions nobody could give a crap about.
