Make it 0%.
If he can give a number like that, then they must have names, right?
This is the stupidest article I have ever read.
First off, those who were there say the Pope didn’t say that.
And why would anyone say something as stupid as that.
If someone knows there are pedophiles(or any other type of criminal) in an organization, he should not be talking. He should be taking immediate action. He should have already been building a case against these people and should have them defrocked, excommunicated and prosecuted.
If someone does not knows then there is nothing to be gained by speculating or guessing.
Identify and prosecute any wrongdoers. But stop blabbering on and on to the media.
Proportion of men who are homosexual: 2%
Proportion of clergy who are pederasts: 2%
Nope, pure coincidence, nothing to see here.
Isn’t that the same percentage of the general population who are homosexuals?
The sex abuse scandal provided us with some statistics about this "pedophile" problem. It was/is a predominately male-on-male issue. If we learned nothing else, we learned that much.
These are the same people who will then turn around and accuse the Church of doing nothing substantial about this problem. The very first lesson which must be learned is the identity of the perps; they're men who suffer from same sex attraction disorder. Without an appreciation of this fact, the problem can never be resolved satisfactorily.
Political correctness however, prevents us from clearly enunciating that fact. Once again, the solution to this problem lies with the seminaries and involves the screening out of these individuals prior to ordination. Ironically, this would bring screams of protest from the likes of the BBC and others who shed crocodile tears over this problem.
Hopefully this Pope will do what has to be done to end it and end the denials and willful blind eyes to this evil in the RCC.
That figures.

To be sure, the contents of the letter to Ryan werent just a product of Dolans need to appease both sides in the intra-Church struggle. It was also a classic example of a style of ecclesiastical document that the Vatican employs in complicated situations....This style of writing aims at studied ambiguity, a Vatican diplomat explained to me, noting that the people who write such letters are trained to think in terms of centuries, not sound bites. So you always need to be able to say fifty years on, Well, of course we never meant that, the diplomat said.
