Anoreth and I went to a Marian devotion at the Greek Orthodox church once. They were very polite, and I thought the liturgy was beautiful, but Anoreth suggested it would be helped by addition of electric guitars.
I was afraid we were going to get the Zot from Saint Nektarios the Wonder-Worker, then and there, but he must have taken pity on poor Vlad, who was only two months old.
She said, maybe Jesus was tickling the baby. Wow, that made me feel different. So now when the kids are at their most rowdy at Church I just laugh. Who knows maybe Jesus is tickling them?
I told my sacrament-prep class last fall that it was important for them to go to Mass every week, not just for themselves, but for the people around them. “When my toddler is singing the “Phineas and Ferb” theme song and won’t shut up, you could be the one who turns around and laughs, instead of looking enraged.”
At a later class, one of the teenagers told me she now made a point of smiling at people with little children. The smallest thing can be the gift someone needs from God right then.
If the parishioners are legal, this is great. If they are not, it is disgusting.
If they are legal....
I’d gladly learn to sing Spanish....

And just why can’t they learn to speak English? So annoying.
I remember a woman had 7 or 8 kids with her, she came everyday to Mass. 99% of the time they were quiet. Well The youngest one at the time was a bit rowdy the one morning. So her oldest brother (he'll be a priest this time next year) told her to pray. So she did! She preceded to pray the Rosary out loud and at a high volume. She was maybe 3 1/2. Well it was so darned cute that everyone joined in.
Then there is a friend of mine who's little boy had just started to crawl and no longer wanted to sit on mommy's lap. She had all she could do to contain him and was really getting embarrassed. Father saw this and stopped in the middle of his homily and spoke to him, the baby babbled back and then settled down. Father said apparently the boy had something he needed to tell Jesus. :) I could go on and on.
My favorite was a young woman struggling to keep three little ones quiet and she looked really frustrated. The older woman sitting next to me, turned around and said "dear, he's bothering you much more then he's bothering any of us". She relaxed and so did the baby.
“And just why cant they learn to speak English? So annoying.”
It is annoying, but they are learning it - just at a slower rate than our ancestors.
I sponsored in RCIA, as an assistant member of my parish churche’s RCIA team, a woman from Purto Rico, forgive my possible bad spelling to be able to be both confirmed and make her first holy communion.
This isn’t happening only in Georgia. It’s happening all over.
You won’t be meeting all of them at Mass. Yes, I prefer our Hispanic neighbors but La Raza will do its part to keep things riled up.
Pureto Rico.
Puerto Rico. I have many friends from Puerto Rico.
When my crazy Pat was about 5, I was at Mass with all the children for a Mary holiday, and Pat pointed a pocket calculator at Father Hawker and then yelled, “Father! I zotted you with my number-beeber! You’re DEAD!” If only I could have called his mothership to beam us all up ...
At the same Mass (if it’s not one darn thing, it’s two darn things) whichever baby hit me in the face with a matchbox car. “Peace be with you, sir ... am I bleeding from my right eye?”
Never having had kids myself. Not a choice, just a reality. I find kids amusing! Probably because I never had any. LOL.
I know one year during Easter Sunday a little tiny sandal went flying several pews down. Apparently she did not her mother's choice of foot wear.
I can’t imagine how Pat learned these things.
Even my mother says “beeber” now, to refer to any small electronic device.
Oh don’t play the ignorant fool...you know why!!
Is he your patron saint too, Salvation?
