Of course, some media reports will hail the PCUSA’s ostensibly courageous shift leftward as heralding the irresistible tides of history and representing Christianity’s future. But after about a half century of continuous decline, neither the PCUSA nor any Mainline denomination can be seriously seen as any barometer of mainstream religious trends, not in the U.S., and even less so around the world. Reportedly many overseas Presbyterian churches, many of them now larger than the PCUSA, are prepared to break ties with the PCUSA over its abandonment of Christian sexual teaching. Some of them already have.

I suspect a great many people overlooked the conclusion. Maybe even intentionally.

IMHO the on the vine rotting of the “mainline” denominations is the cause of so many nondenom/independent churches. Young Christians are the ones fleeing, leaving old liberals to fester in their own heretical stew.

Also take a look at the PCA churches. Packed out with young families, many of whom are refugees from the PC(USA). My own conservative Presbyterian church is mostly young people. At 54 I am one of the old folks in my little flock.

Alex Murphy:

And a great number of us whose faith differs from your own will certainly NOT fail to note the distinction between PC-USA and other still Godly and Scripture based forms of Presbyterianism. I would also urge my fellow Catholics not to use the results of this wayward church's convention as a cudgel with which to be obnoxious towards our outraged Presbyterian brothers and sisters in Christ who are appalled at Presbyterian Church-USA which is not to be confused with the Presbyterian Church of America.

Alex, may God bless you and yours and sustain you in this trial!
