"The drug is an evil, and evil there can be no failure or compromise." And yet by most measures, smoking marijuana is about the same as drinking wine or hard alcohol, which for some reason isn't an evil. Smoking pot to excess is wrong just like drinking to excess is wrong. But I have seen no good argument as to why smoking a joint is worse than having a glass or two of wine or hard alcohol.

Well we know over zealous drug laws have produced very bad results. I understand the concern over narco trafficking, which in my humble view is more a result of strict laws and harsh sentencing which drive up cost and attract participants who do not mind the risk. Participants who are quite willing to gun down innocent bystanders to protect their investment.
