The intent of these heathen pagan non-believers is to insult Christ and Christianity and thereby evoke a response of anger and hatred from his followers. Hoping we respond with an “eye for an eye” so they can emphasize the “hate” Christians have for them.
But when confronted with anger, Christ said not to respond in anger, but instead “turn the other cheek”. Such a response is sure to evoke further anger and hatred from the enemy. By turning the tables, the source of the “hate” will be obvious.
Jesus said you would be hated in his name. When this happens, you know you are doing the righteous thing.
