Horrible. It was ugly, and it’s a pity it didn’t fall down without killing anybody.
I spend a lot of time in Europe, and virtually everywhere I go, there’s a monument or two or three...to JPII. Some of them were paid for by him.
I was particularly distressed when I was on Malta and went to the cave where it is traditionally and probably accurately thought that St Paul stayed in during his time on Malta...and I saw a giant statue of JPII praying in front of the cave, which actually blocked the cave and put all the focus on JPII. St Paul? Who’s he?
