Rainier Beach United Methodist Church celebrated Scout Sunday April 6, days after news broke that the Boy Scouts of America said it was banning a volunteer Scout leader and church member because he is gay.
The Rev. Monica Corsaro, pastor of Rainier Beach, said Geoffrey McGrath will continue to serve as the leader of the church's scouting program.
I am a chartering partner with BSA . If I take responsibility for who is hired then I also take responsibility for who is fired. Our church is thriving and happy, and we support Geoffrey, Corsaro said.
McGrath, an Eagle Scout, said he volunteered to lead the scouting programs for the church and community because the 12 points of the scout law and the scout oath are foundational to my character."
My faith in those things and its transformative power is fully intact. The only curious thing is having to get the corporation, the BSA, to recommit to its own values, McGrath told United Methodist News Service.

There is just no way that the UMC doesn’t split soon. I’m surprised it hasn’t already.
Will there be a “special collection” at each church service to build up a “damages” fund to pay off every scout who is abused by the “leader”?
If not, has whatever lender holds the mortgage on that church been informed that its collateral is at risk of being taken in a bankrupcy proceeding caused when the “leader’s” improper fascination with boys leads to abuse?
The Rev. Monica Corsaro....

Female...Problem #1 right there.
Everyone forgets what the homos did the Catholic Church, or do they simply ignore it. Putting same-sex predators and young boys in close proximity is how the queer community recruits. Having a queer as a scout leader is child abuse in the most vicious way.
You must go to the site to comment. Make your outrage heard.
It's the UMC. Is anyone really surprised?
As far as I'm concerned, the split happened years ago. The lefties took over in the 80s, and ever since the believers have "split", as in left one by one and went elsewhere.
You can stop reading right there. Have never met a woman cleric who wasn't pro-gay, or lesbian herself.
hmm, Corsaro is the name to remember if there is a lawsuit, parents! NOT BSA! He just took personal responsibility
On the other hand- ultimately it is up to the parents whether to put their boys under the influence and control of a homosexual Scout leader
For now.
I recall viewing a news article on television about ten years ago in which an elementary school teacher kept a photo of his boyfriend on his desk. That wasn't the controversy. The controversy was the parents who demanded their children be moved to another classroom. Maria Shriver was the reporter, and when told by the principal of the parents' demand, she was shocked and asked, "Can they do that?!"
The future, my friends, is not pretty.
Two of us have tried posting to the UMC site in opposition to allowing male queers access to young boys. I made the case in a more toned down manner and was not allowed to post. We will be leaving this church organization and moving to the Southern Baptist.
school is mandatory, joining BS and selecting which troop is not
Pulling your kids out of scouting because the leader is homosexual, or criticizing homosexual behavior will be cause for either legal sanctions or social ostracization.
troop meetings that better meet school and family schedules and list of troop activities and friends in the other troop that appeal to your kid are sufficient reason to choose a troop
BSA and GS are voluntary groups
When I was a child my mother switched my GS troop because the leader was an adulteress, but never stated that as the reason
The head of the camel was allowed into the tent...
