I don’t understand. What should’ve been done differently that would’ve been more effective?

Sister Jane Dominic gave several earlier presentations in Charlotte that were well received. These were presented to mixed audiences - adults, and students with their parents - who chose to attend.

If learning (or even conversion) is the goal, then this mandatory assembly of high school students was not the best tactic. (It certainly doesn't seem to have worked out well for Sister Jane.)
