They’re considered worse than mere infidels; they’re considered apostates under the doctrine of takfir.
Who’s the first ones that killed by the radical nutcases? Usually the Sufis, then the Ahmadiyya, then on down the line with anyone who doesn’t agree with a narrow and dogmatic interpretation.
And let’s not even get started on the Sunni/Shia schism...that’s a whole different can of worms - the world’s longest-running sectarian war, sometimes cold, and sometimes hot.
