This won't happen as the tourism there is worth too much.
My guess is that this is a bid for a little "baksheesh" to keep it open as a tourist stop.

I've been there. It IS a marvel.
NO, it won't be a mosque, unless they use it on Friday mornings, the Muslim "Sunday," for a couple of hours, THEN let it revert to the tourist sight.
THAT sounds more reasonable.
