Church Hopes to Expand Reach of Joseph Smith Movie on Hulu [Smith-smitten 'Smithmas' on Hulu]

December 23 is the birthday of the Prophet Joseph Smith, who was born in 1805. In his honor, consider watching the movie Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration, now available for the first time on Hulu...

The Joseph Smith movie is the first Church film to penetrate an exclusive, major distribution channel like Hulu, where some 4 million subscribers can watch on-demand streaming video of TV shows, movies, web content, and other new media through media devices (Roku, Apple TV), gaming consoles (Xbox, PlayStation), smartphones and tablets, and other devices that connect to the Internet.

SNIP

The current version of the movie is actually an updated version of the 2005 film originally shown in many visitors’ centers. The updated version was revised to be more understandable to a wider audience. The movie explains the concept of modern prophets, the purpose of temples, the eternal nature of family relationships, and Joseph’s Smith’s life and mission as a modern-day prophet.

SNIP

The movie, told from the viewpoint of Joseph Smith’s mother, Lucy Mack Smith, “is as much a story about a mother’s son as the founder of a major worldwide religion,” Shelley said.

The Lds Church was still at it this week...promoting Joseph Smith's birthday!

From the article: The movie, told from the viewpoint of Joseph Smith’s mother, Lucy Mack Smith, “is as much a story about a mother’s son as the founder of a major worldwide religion,” Shelley said.

This is actually (finally) a nice concession by the Mormon church: That Joseph Smith is the church's "founder"...not Jesus Christ. (It might as well be called The Church of Joseph Smith of Latter-day Saints).

Often, the church tries it's "we're Christians, too" PR tries. But here, Lds.org concedes that Mormonism is "a major worldwide religion" -- in competition with Christianity.

What's interesting is that the Smith-smitten church seems to make this concession every now & then on Dec. 23. It did it 20 years ago -- Dec. 23, 1993 -- in its official publication, Liahona...note the headline:

Exploring: The Church Began with a Prophet [Mormon Merry Smithmas Day!]

Lds Doctrine & Covenants 1:30 says that the Mormon Church "is the ONLY true and living church on the face of the earth" (D&C 1:30).

[So much for its supposed extension of "Good will" and cheer to all Christian churches who claim the name of Jesus Christ every Christmas season!]

When you couple D&C 1:30 with this headline: That "the church began with a prophet" -- it means this headline implies that the only true and living church began with a man named Joseph Smith.

No headline credit to Jesus Christ jumpstarting the Mormon church.

No focus on the Church Jesus Christ began in the first century, either.

And, of course, the Mormon church can't focus on that historic church. Why not?

Because it claims that church went down in flames. A 100% apostasy...or as close to 100% as you can get.

So...what the Mormon church is left with promoting Joseph Smith as the real founder of its church!

From the article:

From the Lds.org article: The movie explains the concept of modern prophets, the purpose of temples, the eternal nature of family relationships, and Joseph’s Smith’s life and mission as a modern-day prophet.

Iow...the movie...
(a) Ignores Hebrews 1:1-2, a passage that even uses the term these "latter days" -- and says that in the PAST Jesus spoke by way of Prophets, but NOW the Living Revelation, Jesus Christ, supercedes them and makes them irrelevant. Jesus Christ is replaced as the Living Prophet by the Mormon Church.
(b) Temples are purposed in the Mormon church to make Mormons out of the dead and to attempt to elongate marriage & churn out future gods who will populate their own planets;
(c) Let's face it! Heaven IS one big family! With Heavenly Father to be the ONLY Father. And Jesus Christ to be the ONLY bridegroom. All other fathers & bridegrooms will fade by contrast; so the Mormon church's effort to prop up an ETERNAL propagation of them would be in direct competition with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
(d) And, of course, the focus is Joseph Smith yet again...not Jesus Christ.

I’m sure looking forward to the revelations that Joseph Smith secretly married the wives (many) of other men! Also, the retribution those men took on Joseph Smith in jail will be dramatic.

This will be an action packed reality TV show, more like Keeping up with the Kardashians!

Forget Duck Dynasty. They’re Christians.

People should know that Mormonism is a faked and contrived religion. There are so many things from Mormonism that do not stand up to scrutiny.

Mormonism is also classified as a “Christian cult group” (namely one that pretends to be “Christian”. Mormonism does not hold to any of the basic, historic and widely held central doctrines of Christianity.

There are “denominations” in Christianity that differ on some things outside of basic and historic Christian doctrine, but Mormonism is not another one of these — it is a CULT GROUP TRYING TO FOOL PEOPLE into believing they are truly a Christian teaching group (which they are not).

(Yeah, why haven't we seen a Mormon church film re-enactment of Smith's death where he goes down with two pistols in his hand blazing...having shot several men before dying?)

Doubt it...just not much light wanting to be shed on those sub-plots of Smith’s.

What....they kant be bothered to tell their version of Christ the Savior?

How can Smith be the founder of a new religion?

He was revealing what god told him and restoring that which was lost.

Apparently it had been found again.

Not entirely true. The LDS hold that the King James Version of the Bible is authoritative and my church has used this fact as a means to reach out to Mormons. We provide Mormons with KJV/NIV study Bibles that have the old KJV side-by-side with the NIV - a more modern and easier to read Bible.

We invite the Mormons to read the NIV and to refer to the KJV for authority. The result of this is a vast increase in the comprehension of the Word and that inevitably results in a former Mormon.

LDS is a faith that ultimately cannot stand up to the scrutiny of its own followers once those followers are equipped with the full armor of God.

There is no doctrine in the Christian church regarding the King James Bible or it’s authority ... :-) ...

There is a doctrine in the church regarding the Scriptures, and here we’re referring to the original language and the autographs.

And besides that, they always say, “where it is correctly translated”. Guess what ... whenever the King James contradicts something that is a doctrine in Mormonism ... “It’s not correctly translated.”

The LDS hold that the King James Version of the Bible is authoritative and my church has used this fact as a means to reach out to Mormons.

Lds hold that the KJV is more authoritative than most versions; however, wherever the...
...KJV and JST (Joseph Smith Translation) disagree, the JST trumps the KJV...
...and KJV and Mormon doctrines/"living prophets" of the moment disagree, the Mormon doctrines/"living prophets" trumps the KJV...

One of the articles of faith of the LDS is that they attach a disclaimer to the KJV: "insofar as transmitted correctly..." So this becomes the automatic Mormon "out" if they read something in the Bible they don't agree with.

And their leaders have long criticized the pre-KJV Bible translation/transmission process at times...meaning they think the KJV was based upon a faulty foundation. I can pull up quotes if you'd like.

Bottom line here is that if the Lds Church had not seen anything wrong with the KJV, then the “Joseph Smith Translation” would have been seen as 100% superfluous — unnecessary.

“It’s not correctly translated.”

I have my ummim and thummim Ray Bans (quite fashionable, really) and according them the KJV is just fine.

The plates God gave to Moses 6,000 years ago can’t be found.

The plates God gave to Joseph Smith less than 200 years ago can’t be found.

The plates God gave to Moses 6,000 years ago can’t be found.

The plates God gave to Joseph Smith less than 200 years ago can’t be found.

The significant difference here is that plenty of other people saw the tablets that Moses had while only Joseph Smith ever saw the golden plates that he supposedly had.

Moses' tablets were undoubtedly of supernatural origin given that the crowd of Jews he showed them to had a significant number of skilled stonemasons in the crowd who would have known a man-made tablet the instant they saw it. This was part of the substantiation of the Message was that the medium of the Message itself proved to be a miracle.

It is also to be noted that where Moses himself did not enter the Holy Land that it was other people who carried the tablets into the Holy Land.

Joseph Smith never produced his golden plates for anyone else and was alone in his assertions about their existence while no end of Jews alive before 70AD could attest to the existence of Moses' tablets.

You said what I meant. They can’t produce Smith’s plates but they ruins of the town in Missouri are still there.

Of course, those swords and other instruments of war have never been found in New York either.
