Too bad for the little girls destined to be mired in the degradation and hopelessness of polygamy.

The vast majority of people practicing poly in the US these days are not FLDS. Most of them are pagan/atheist/agnostic. Besides, this ruling has no effect on those people who force little girls into marriages with older men - this only impacts people who are 18+ and in consensual relationships.

30 years from now the state might outlaw religiously hetero traditional marriage as unlawful cohabitation.

That would be a brave new world, wouldn't it?

Only a woman with severe psychological disorder and a rock bottom self esteem would allow herself to be one of many wives. Its the same as being in porn movies, your self esteem is so low you will do anything to gain or attract “love.”

“Homosexuals and polygamists do have a common interest,” he said, “the right to be left alone as consenting adults.”

"And", the judge continued, "with rights come responsibilities. One of those is to leave alone the rest of us, who consider one group mentally ill and the other misguided." < /in my dreams >

It really doesn’t get any worse than recognizing homosexual relations as akin to marriage. Polygamy is more in line with natural law. And at least with bestiality you are not dragging another human into the perversion (offset in part by the fact that animals don’t deserve such treatment, being beneath their dignity.)

So, I never thought that the argument that it will lead to polygamy was too impressive, being somewhat akin to the joke about the Baptists who avoided fornication as it may lead to dancing.

However, your point that the further deterioration of marriage under the law and in the culture will continue in all directions is spot on.

The judge said a lot of things but this shows the only thing it changed.

Polygamy is illegal in all 50 states. But Utah’s law is unique in that a person can be guilty not just for having two legal marriage licenses, but also for cohabiting with another adult in a marriage-like relationship.

What this shows is that the Utah Polygamy law was even stricter than the laws in the other 49 states, it was in fact illegal for a man to have a mistress, which was not the case in the other states, now Utah has the same law as the other 49 states.

If all of these twists in the truth comes from religious organizations as i suspect i do not wonder that God is going to destroy the Church.

If ANYone thought that it would stop with legalizing Gay marriage....they were not thinking. Eventually we will be able to marry animals. Just wait and see.

Yeah, if they legalize gay marriage they might even have the gull to legalize a MAN having more than one WOMAN, JEEZ

I'm afraid you are right. The state got involved in the marriage business in the first place because it meant money for marriage licenses. The state's supposed interest was that stable marriages = stable families = good citizens.

That was nice while it lasted, but the courts begin to destroy marriage once the focus of family courts begin to be what's best for the adults involved, not what's best for the children.

The redefinition of marriage by the fudgepacker crowd delivered the final blow.

Time to give marriage back to the churches and get the government out if it completely.

I can tell you that among my Native American ancestors, polygamy wasn’t only common, but it was even more common for all the men of the tribe to go off on a hunting/fishing trip during a certain time of the month.

The ruling deals with whether a person can openly co-habitate with multiple people.

I also tried to explain that to them when the other thread came out a couple days ago.

That being said i find it hard to believe that many of these people look at plural marriage between men an women even worse than they look at gay marriage and bestiality.

But i believe it is because the word Mormon is involved, it really makes me wonder what kind of people we have here.

We does te insanity stop. I can see 2 homosexuals having the right to civil marriage (not religious if denomination prohibits it)—but polygamy is trickier. I really think the woman comes out the loser (or at least one of them) —psychologically. If the definition for allowing marriage is love alone-—maybe I can marry my teddy bear? (it is always serene and never gives me any lip)

Care for the children? They gave that up when they allowed homosexual marriages, child abusive relationships on their face.

You,ve got it right.
