[Catholic] Church allowed abuse to happen: Vic report
Perth Now ^ | 11/13/2013 | Patrick Caruana

Senior Catholic Church leaders protected pedophiles, allowed them to keep offending and kept Victorians in the dark about the problem.

A Victorian parliamentary report is scathing of the church's leadership prior to the 1990s, saying child abuse was trivialised and their protection of pedophiles meant abuse happened when it could have been avoided.

Archbishop Denis Hart apologised to victims and said previous responses to abuse cases were inexcusable, calling it the worst betrayal of his lifetime in the church.

Money quote: "I have to accept that church leaders in the past concealed crimes and caused other children to be offended against."

I can understand staying quiet about trivial misdemeanors, but pedophilia? What kind of Christian hides child abuse in the church? A phony one.

There is nothing phony about the Church itself, but it has had some bad leadership.

There is no doubting that the leadership hid the pedo practices of some of it’s Priests. There is little doubt that they are still doing it in my mind.

It is and was wrong. I may be called a bad Catholic by many for my views, but IMO the problem was that the leadership was promoted from the rank and file, and that many in the leadership were as guilty as the lower ranking pedophiles and therefore hid them.

Homosexuality and the hidden pedophiles have done great damage to the Church, the credibility of every priest is called into question. No one can go to mass without wondering if their Priest has a problem, and many have stopped going to Mass.

Add to that the fact that probably 90% of Catholics in child bearing age are using Birth Control, many are having abortions or making excuses for those who have them and many now support active homosexuals and the Church leadership instead of tending to the problems we already have are pushing illegals down our throats and the church is in deep trouble.

Seattle’s new mayor Ed Murray is openly gay, married to another man, and attends services at Seattle’s St. James Cathedral (Catholic) and (I think) receives communion, with no one apparently questioning any of it. The gay mafia is deeply entrenched in the church.

No surprise there.

[Faithful Departed author Philip] Lawler points out that while less than five percent of American priests have been accused of sexual abuse, some two-thirds of our bishops were apparently complicit in cover-ups. The real scandal isn't the sick excesses of a few dozen pedophiles, or even the hundreds of priests who had affairs with teenage boys -- the bulk of abuse cases. No, according to Lawler, it is the malfeasance of wealthy, powerful, and evidently worldly men who fill the thrones -- but not the shoes -- of the apostles. In case after case, we read in their correspondence, in the records of their soulless, bureaucratic responses to victims of psychic torture and spiritual betrayal, these bishops' prime concern was to save the infrastructure, the bricks and mortar and mortgages. Ironically, their lack of a supernatural concern for souls is precisely what cost them so much money in the end.
-- from the thread Kneeling Before the World

"The Dublin Archdiocese's preoccupations in dealing with cases of child sexual abuse, at least until the mid-1990s, were the maintenance of secrecy, the avoidance of scandal, the protection of the reputation of the church and the preservation of its assets," said the report. "All other considerations, including the welfare of children and justice for victims, were subordinated to these priorities. The archdiocese did not implement its own canon law rules and did its best to avoid any application of the law of the state"....

It didn’t just start in the 1990’s either.

IMO the Church is not sincere in it’s cleansing, and never has been.

There was a connection between the growing use of birth control and homosexuality. The pedophilia scandal is in some ways a red herring. Even today the Church seems to hesitate to remind us that this was a homosexual problem involving a relaxed discipline in the seminaries. It was already a problem before the Council but it got worse afterwards. Our whole society is becoming “homosexualized,” meaning that differences between men and women, boy and girls, young and old are treated as wholly matters of “choice.” to be medically erased.

"Unable to marry Shiosaki in his own Catholic Church, Murray and his partner marched to the altar at the Episcopal St. Mark’s Cathedral on Capitol Hill. The congregation in the church included present and former state senators from both parties who had voted for marriage equality in the Legislature."

The guy is a nut. The Church does not try to have confrontation in The church it self during mass. It defeats the purpose. He ain't fooling God. You do not want a crazy fist fight going on in a simple mass. If he does not repent he will be in the hands of a wrathful God of Justice.
