The Vatican is planning an unprecedented public display of the relics of St. Peter, as the Year of Faith comes to a close.
The display was announced by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, the president of Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization, in an article appearing in the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano. The archbishop did not supply any details of the plans.
The tomb of St. Peter, located under the altar of the Vatican basilica, was unearthed during excavations in the mid-20the century. In 1968, after extensive research and testing, Pope Paul VI announced that relics of St. Peter had been identified. These relics have been kept in the grotto of the basilica, and never placed on public display.
The Year of Faith concludes on November 24, the feast of Christ the King.

I get all choked up even thinking about it. Imagine, St. Peter's bones, right there. Thank goodness for all those Romans who WOULDN'T believe St. Paul when he went to Rome to spread the Good News. They didn't believe him because Paul hadn't been an disciple/apostle of Jesus.
Thank goodness St. Paul called for Peter to join him in Rome. God bless Peter for going.
When the Romans were going to kill Peter, he asked that he not be allowed the "privilege" to die like Christ did, as the Romans crucified Peter, so Peter was crucified upside down. Dreadful.
And there stood me once.
What a blessing that his relics will be displayed.
Bump.
YES, it is.
SOMEday, go to Rome. See them in the Vatican. Start saving; it's worth the trip.
I said there stood me once. Or there stood I, once. ;0)>
I was there in 2000.
Oh, is THAT what you said? I couldn't figure it out, so I just ignored it. Sorry.
Isn't Rome marvelous? I've been there several times. I probably won't go again because I'm old now and DO NOT like those ENDLESS hours on the plane.
Interesting, and I had not seen this before. What is the source of the statement that St. Paul called for St. Peter to join him in Rome?
