And what crime, in particular, do you believe it to be.
As I said, the problem is that thinking that "eternal" means "still going on." It doesn't.
Misapprehending, misrepresenting, misleading, and misdirecting,to start with.

What is going on is the unrolling of The God's plan. For that, He began by creating time. It's still going on. The Cross-death is not. Christ's substitutionary suffering in sacrifice at the hand of The God is over. It was finished at Calvary. His anguish for disobedient humans is not, neither His suffering for His persecuted saints. The God's progressive revelation is time-dependent. We have not yet got to the point when time and tears shall be no more (Rev. 10:6, 7:7).
I'll worry about "eternal" when it comes.
It has been my experience that many/ most protestants have a very difficult time grasping the concepts of infinity and eternity, especially in how they relate as characteristics or attributes of God.
Would "ever efficacious" do? That the sacrifice does not have to be represented in order to make it cover, or to be a propitiation for the current sins of the people, means that the ONE sacrifice of Christ IN time, on THAT very cross at Calvary, for ALL time was sufficient to render the sins of ALL time PAID IN FULL for those who receive it by faith.
