There is a lot of projection going on concerning Pope Francis. Thats what makes this article with its surprise ending possible. Funny how no one's taken issue with the author's bait-and-switch assertion that BXVI was a liberal :)

What's to take issue with. In many areas BXVI WAS a liberal. I think the point of this article is three-fold:
- People have their minds made up about Francis and are projecting their hopes or fears.
. - It's easy to take a line or two and twist it to mean what you want it to mean.
. - People are idiots.

Faulty assessment. The purpose is to show that the obviously orthodox/conservative Benedict, stated things that when taken out of context, could lead to the faulty assessment that he is liberal.
Of course the implication is that this is what is going on with Frances.

Not every pope in the history of the Church has been a sincere Catholic, but Benedict and Francis are. And those quotes you're reading, they reflect Catholic thought and teaching. Liberal/Conservative labels need not apply.
