From the linked article, "Christianity in its Global Context, 1970–2020: Society, Religion, and Mission," page 9:

"The World Christian Database defines “Christians” as “followers of Jesus Christ of all kinds; all traditions and confessions; and all degrees of commitment. Christians are enumerated in two primary ways: first, from the point of view of the state, society at large, or the general public, such as in government censuses or public opinion polls; and second, from the perspective of the churches, where denominations report membership figures (usually including children)."

Jesus suggested that the reality will be somewhat more exclusive.

According to the report, Christianity in Europe rose from 75 percent in 1970 to 78.6 percent in 2010, mostly attributed to the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. But the report shows that Christianity in Europe is expected to decline to 78.0 percent by 2020.

How can 3/4 of the population be considered Christian, and yet the Muslims are still taking over?

This confirms what Philip Jenkins has been writing and teaching on, the growing global south Christianity.

I now live in Ormoc City, Leyte Province, Philippines. I attend Bible Baptist Church. It is a missions oriented church, more than just a local assembly. They have a Bible College, with around 50 students currently, and a Christian school.

My pastor preaches Christ. He has an altar call and is baptizing 10-20new converts each month. The church is 20+ years old., but isn't filled (though mostly). Instead, he helps start new local assemblies, staffing them with new pastors trained by the College.

This college is entirely supported by the membership and they are mission oriented, as well. The focus in Asians to Asians, primarily Filipinos, but also they have sent missionaries to Indonesia, and several other countries.

The college students pay no tuition, are furnished with atwo year education INCLUDING room and board (rice is the staple here, but has increased in price by 40% over the past two years to 1800 pesos/$45 +/- per 50kilo bag).

Pastor Emmanuel Bereso is a humble man with a heart to spread Christ in the middle of a Roman Catholic nation. The zeal and love shines through him into his congregation. His love of Christ is as clear as the rain falling from the sky here. I an privileged to be here and helping where I can.

The Philippines is showing a decline on that chart, but from what I am seeing with my own eyes, Christ is winning new souls daily. There is a new church mission in Albuera (15k south), a year old. The young pastor there is a Filipino trained in Ohio. He and his wife and three children live in a one bedroom "parsonage", attached to the Sunda School building, and all of this was built with donations from the congregation. He is always on the move. Their church is filled on Sundays, Wednesdays, and any time the doors are open. BUT, he has also set up house meetings in local neighbor hoods all over the area. That is why they are growing. He is only one example of Pastor Emmanuel's crop and I could name many more...

It is an Independent Baptist Church. It is dependent only on Christ!

If you want to help, send donations to:

Bible Baptist Church
Purok 6, Brgy. Linao,
Ormoc City, 6541, Philippines.

Rev. Emmanuel S. Bereso
